03 jag x type ignition switch removal with key not turning

check the key in switch in the igniton lock does the steering column lock when you remove the key?if not the switch is faulty try a battery reset if that does not work you ma y have a can network problem will need to go on jag diagnostic equipment

IGNITION KEY WILL NOT RELEASE

It can be faulty ignition lock cylinder. I suggest to wiggle the steering wheel a bit and see if the key gets released out. If that is not helping then first turn steering wheel to right and try removing the key, or next turn steering wheel to left and see if you can remove the key.

Spray wd-40 in the ignition key hole and let it remain there for few minutes, after that once again try to remove the key and see if that helps.

But if that is not helping then ignition lock cylinder has to be removed out and key has to be manually removed.

Try some lock lubricant down the ignition switch tumblers make sure the transmission is fully in park. If all else fails call a locksmith, some locksmiths have a call out service and are much cheaper than the dealer for this type of repair. check out following link below jag

It may not be the battery, it may be the ignition switch. There is a switch within the key barrel if this switch gets dirty the remote lock, I have a 2004 model. Squirt some WD40 into the key barrel and turn the key a few time to shift the dirt, then try the remote. The switch is design not to lock the doors accidently, so the switch has to closed, when you take the key out of the barrel.

The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.
NOTE On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible. On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash.

• Remove the ignition switch wiring harness.
• Unbolt it from its position.
• Bolt the new switch into position.
• Attach the witing harness.

There is usually a light on the instrument cluster that tells you if hte immobiliser has disabled the starter. Something like a key with an X through it or something similar. See if that light is illuminated. If not, check the obvious things like fuses. Jags ignition switches have been known to have a short life span. You may need a new ignition switch and that should be done by a professional mechanic. Good luck.

1.) Close all doors

2.) Switch the ignition switch to KL-R (first turn), switch back off within 5 seconds and remove the key

3.) Within 30 seconds, press and hold the unlock button and at the same time, press and release the lock button (3) times. (Must be completed within 10 seconds)

4.) Release both buttons. The doors will lock/unlock to signal a successful initialization.

5.) If additional keys need to be initialized, repeat steps 3-4 within 30 seconds

6.) Switching the ignition to KL-R completes the initialization

The switchblade key would need to be compatable with your ignition switch barrel. Only normally available from jag dealers who check the Jag owners register before supplying you a replacement.
The older type seperate fobs could be programmed by switching the ignition on and off 8 times (allowing all functions to settle) and on the 9th switch on - press a button on each fob and then switch off. to test use a good fob to lock the car then try the reprogammed fob to unlock/lock. Sometimes this works first time - sometimes needs a couple of tries.
