SOURCE: ABS light and skidding on brake pedal

if you live near an autozone they will scan it for free and let you know what is wrong. one likely source of the problem is the round gear on each axle. one of them may be cracked which will cause the sensor to read improperly and make the abs come on for that wheel. the scan should tell you which wheel

SOURCE: i have a 2006 nissan

Your anti-lock brake system is supposed to do exactly what it says.....keep your tires from locking up.So if everything is operating properly, then no, it will not leave huge skid marks.Yes however there will be very slight skid marks, every car takes a second to determine when to disengage the brakes, but you will not ever be seen sliding around a corner like a Dukes of Hazard brother.I hope I could help..Thanks, rate me accordingly.

SHIFTER LOCKED IN PLACE

  1. Remove the instrument panel cover below the steering column, then remove the steering column shrouds to gain access to the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) solenoid. The solenoid is part of the interlock cable assembly.
  2. Disconnect the wire connector from the rear of the BTSI solenoid.
  3. Insert the ignition key and turn it to the ON position.
  4. With the brakes applied, try moving the shifter out of the PARK position.
    • If the lever now moves freely in and out of PARK, perform the Circuit Test below.
    • If the shift lever still does not move from the PARK position, remove the BTSI solenoid from the shift lever assembly. If the shift lever now moves freely in and out of the park position, the BTSI solenoid is faulty and the interlock cable must be replaced. If the shift lever still does not move from the park position, the problem is in the shift lever assembly or the ignition interlock cassette

You have a loose wire. This is labor intensive to find so try wiggling things around under the dash.

Check battery voltage (engine off= 12V; engine on=14.4V), then check fuses, then connect with Volvo diagnostic tool and check for error codes.

Parking Brake, ABS, Traction Control & Anti Skid lights on

One or more of the sensors in the wheels that are responsible for these functions is faulty. It is sending a signal that is mucking up the calculations that control the brakes and engine for traction control and anti skid. All of them need to be checked!

The anti lock light stays on all the time. Mechanic wants over $500 to fix. What can I do?

Depending on your financial situation, you can drive it like it is for now. You will not have any protection from the anti-skid as far as its control of your braking, but the brakes will work just like the old brakes where the driver controlled them. I am not recommending you drive indefinately, but in most cases the anti-skid light just means that it has detected a failure in the anti-skid system and had relinquished control of the brakes back to the driver.
