Which fan motor relay ? Cooling (radiator) fan or the heater / A/C blower motor relay ? If talking about heater / A/C blower motor it doesn't have a relay . It's computer controlled . Late 90 Cadillac No HVAC Blower Output
Could be one of blower motor relays contacts stuck closed . There are two blower motor relays 1 & 2 . One is located in the under hood fuse/relay box .
Or if your explore has automatic HVAC , it could be the front blower motor speed controller , this have been known to do this .
Which HVAC does your explorer have , manual or electronic automatic control.
There are 2 relays for the blower. The low blower relay and the high blower relay. They are both located
under the hood in the center of the firewall.
The low will have 4 wires from it, one lt. blue and 3 brown. The high will have 5 wires 1 purple(to blower mtr.) 1 black 1 dk blue 1 red and 1 orange.
Also, the blower resistor is in the same area if needed. Hope this helps.
This Sounds Like the Blower MOTOR Itself has Failed, But There Is a Relay Located...
LH Electronics Bay Board (behind Panel) (2 Door)...........Also one other Part is The Resistor....... FRONT BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR This vehicle does not use a Front Blower Motor Resistor. The Front Blower Motor speed is regulated by the Front Blower Motor Speed Control which is incorporated into the Front Blower Motor and is not serviced separately.
very tight but you can clear the engine just moving some spark plug wires and the vacuum controls (controlled units?) right in front of it. when you get the bolts off the blower fan housing and its free to move you just have to rotate it so the flat part can clear the rear valve cover. do yourself a favor and be sure to isolate the problem to the motor (and not the electrical connections or the computer disabling it for something rediculous like lack of a/c charge) as it's an expensive part for a little motor and worse (around 250 i think) if you need end up replacing the entire fan.
The solution is more than likely a new blower motor. Replacing this blower motor is no small task. I am in the process of doing it, but there is so little wiggle room that I suspect that if a cadillac mechanic does this job, they will jack up the engine/transaxle to make room. The motor itself is not cheap either, a replacement Delco is well over $200. I will let you know if my new motor install works.
