Drives good just when your stoping or put it in gear converter locks up and kills the engine. spent 800 at trans shop they still dont know changed check balls fliud filters screens trans computer still stalling the engine. i think its the converter or the tcc solenoid any more incight would be apprec.
Are there any trouble codes in the system? If there is, you need to go through the diagnostic procedure. Or since you had the trans replaced at the shop, have them repair it. Sounds to me it could be a faulty tcc solenoid.
You are right. If you disconnect the wire going into the lock up solenoid and the problem stops then you may have a malfunctioning solenoid. If it is still locked up then the lockup converter is faulty.

what is the car?
does it have a lock up torque converter for final gear
torque converter is stuck in final drive, lock up or direct drive
you can un plug direct drive to get it going
I think it is your transmission, i believe your torgue converter is locked up, what is happening, when u put it in gear the torgue from the engine is put into coverter, it has a series of cluthes inside that get tighter as force is applied by your transmission, however if the torgue converter is seized, then all of the motors energy is being applied to your trans, then to your axles, since your car is on the ground and not moving it kills the motor.
can you roll trk? does it stall in any gear as soon as you shift? (rev/fwd) possible torque converter malfunction or trans shaft broke (internal failure) which has trans locked up. It is cheaper to get used trans than having that one rebuilt. Most trans shops offer free inspection but give all the same diagnosis it seems. We have to rebuild trans!! I have yet after 28 yrs have a trans shop say they will tear down and fix only that problem (unless it was the torque converter). If trk does not roll, remove rear drive shaft ( 2 wheel drive ) does it roll now? Is the fluid clean and smells clean? does fluid look dark and smells like burnt toast? I would just get a used trans with clean fluid present and swap, make sure it comes with the torque converter or buy new one. Sorry this has happened to you at the coldest time of the year, good luck
could be or a bad converter or a lock up converter selonoid. sound like the converter is locked and its stoping the motor, when its in first the clutchs are being brunt when truck is not moving, check the selinoid first the the converter, hope this helps.
theres a good chance that it broke the main shaft in the tranny from to much pressure forcing it back, be honest i would look for a good reman tranny and if your having problems with the starter to close to the torque converter they make shims for the starter to avoid that problem.
Do you know what year the 400 turbo is. It sounds like the converter is locked up. I can't remember if any of the 400's had a lock up converter but I will check.
If the engine locked up while driving, that could cause the transmission to also lock up and make the car some to a screeching hault. It could cause damage to axles, transmissions, torque converters, etc.
