If it's a shift - on - the - fly 4wd, then call your local Chevy truck dealer. There was a recall on the Electronic 4wd on these trucks. (common problem). Try this just for the heck of it. With the truck stopped, put in 4hi/lo, then put it in reverse. Back up slightly, (about 5ft or so) and then put it in drive (or first in a manual trans) and go forward. Did it lock in? If it locks in but won't unlock, try backing up to unlock. Hope this helps.

The actuator on the front differential is most likely not coming in. Test for current at it's electriacl plug. If it has current there the actuator isn't working. This is a common problem on your model. Actuator is over $100. So test first.

New motor (5.7) in 1997 GMC Sierra K1500. What OEM plugs go where? Truck Cranks and all lights seem to be working, but won't start.

Sorry for you loss :>(

Wiring harnesses often have spare plugs depending on different levels of build, but use the same harness for ease.

Look in the engine bay for all the sensors and ones with no plug. Normally the plug will be close but and reach comfortably and be the same type of plug shape.

The fact you have the engine turning over is good. If the battery was disconnected or went flat, you will need to reset the alarm and immobilizer.

Some ideas here, check for fuel pump operation and spark at the spark plugs.

97 GMC K1500 4x4 not locking in/ blinking lights

When it is in 4x4 check and see if you can turn the front drive shaft. If you can the problem is in the front end. If you can't the problem is in the trasfercase.

My 1997 gmc sierra shows four high light blinking but it will not lock in and my four low does not blink or lock in. What is the problem? The fuse isn't blown.

The first thing i would do is drain and refill the transfer case with clean DEXRON VI ATF, this may free up the case clutch and allow it to operate. It is worth a try. the drain and fill plugs are on the back of the case.

I have a 1997 gmc pickup with 4-wheel drive. The

You probably have blown drive hubs. Do you have to engage the hubs at the wheels? If not and they are automatic locking and they are probably blown or seized into the unlock position. They are not too expensive to replace with manual locking hubs (My Suggestion) but the autolocking hubs are expensive. When you take the caps off the front drive spindles and try running it again you may see the axle turning inside but not the wheel. That is the best test. Wish you luck!!
