On my 1997 K1500 GMC Sierra Z71 when I try to put it into 4 high or 4 low it doesn't lock in the light just keeps blinking until it kills my battery. Works fine in 2 high lights in push button works but just doesn't lock in somebody please help!!!
If it's a shift - on - the - fly 4wd, then call your local Chevy truck dealer. There was a recall on the Electronic 4wd on these trucks. (common problem). Try this just for the heck of it. With the truck stopped, put in 4hi/lo, then put it in reverse. Back up slightly, (about 5ft or so) and then put it in drive (or first in a manual trans) and go forward. Did it lock in? If it locks in but won't unlock, try backing up to unlock. Hope this helps.
The actuator on the front differential is most likely not coming in. Test for current at it's electriacl plug. If it has current there the actuator isn't working. This is a common problem on your model. Actuator is over $100. So test first.
I have a 97 gmc truck and i was in 4 lo and pushed in 4 hi and and took off on the highway thinking it was in and it didnt go in to 4 hi and instead it was blinking but by the time i seen it ,it was in 4 lo still and not 4 hi and it was over reviving the motor at 55 when i realized it,it was to late and i threw 3 rods thru my oil pan because it didnt shift. so u need to be careful and it cost me 2000.00 plus .
