I just purchased a 2002 VW Cabrio that is in great shape, but the power locks do not appear to work. Is there a fuse I should check or some other simple fix before I go to the mechanic?

The actual buttons, when pressed, on the inside of the door, do not do anything to the locks. Additionally, the key (no fob) does not do anything in terms of locking/unlocking the doors.

these cars are known for having switches in the door lock module fail. its an easy repair but an involved and time consuming job to access the unit in the door.

if your window is stuck open you can close it from the outside. put the key in the door lock and turn it to the right until they all close. My cabrio is doing the same thing and that's how I closed mine.

I have a similiar problem occasionally. In my 97 vw, it usually happens when the battery terminals are loose. I just take them off, clean them and reconnect and the problem goes away for several months.

Hi,
It is a wiring fault, but they are looking on the wrong end. You will need to have a VW dealer "repin" the electrical connector at the throttle body. What this means is, the dealer will take apart the connector, cut off the old pins and crimp on new ones and reassemble the connector. This is a common problem on drive by wire VW's. The dealer has a bulletin on the problem and I don't know why they missed it. They will probably have to order the connector kit however. Good luck!

2000 VW cabio door locks stopped working

chances are you broke the 10cent pot metal piece ($30 at dealer) that attachs to the tumbler behind the scene where the key inserts and engages the locks. The good news if your handy you can fix this. The bad news is probably it will break again (from personal experience). To fix it --- simply disengage the alarm with your fob --- remove door panel (need a star wrench to remove the parts holding the panel) -carefully pry the outer panel of the frame --- peel back the plastic to acess the cavity of the door - - locate the broke piece and replace (make sure you keep track of the sequence, meaning take a picture of the unit befoe you start and as you dismantle it) hopefully this helps!

Need diagram of fuses for 2002 vw cabrio and what number is for the fuel pump relay?

VW does not supply free owners manual downloads, so we have no fuse box diagrams. You can purchase the owners manual from the dealer.
