Check out the catylac converter on the exausht it might be plugged. The exhaust cant escape quick enough and bogs the motor down.

yes, on the V engines, it can vary.
in school they say
"look from top of motor, see the cylinder that is more forward
that is on FWD car forward is to right, strut.
on is most forward on all V engines. that be #1"

not reading the book (FSM) invites huge errors. with all cam belts.
they are tricky , as a class.
its and interference engine and guessing can be tad expensive... BOOM
