How much would a torque converter cost for a ford F 1-50, v6, 4.2, 2 wheel drive
would it be better to buy the converter only or the whole transmission
Torque converters are cheap, around $100 because they can easily be rebuilt. But they almost never go bad, because they only have one bearing, and it is always bathed in oil.
So why do you think you even need one?
It bolts to the drive plate, which is like a light flywheel replacement, so that the starter has a ring gear to engage. So it it not part of the transmission at all, and is between the transmission and engine. If it is leaking, it is not hard to replace the seals and bushings once you take the transmission out.
