I have the same problem on mine. Once the hood is released inside the cabin, do the following:
Push the release in on the hood, then pull up a bit on the hood and then the release should pull out completely unlocking the hood. Hope this helps.

My hood safety latch want release the hood so it can open. How can I get around this

You will need to use a long tool and some spray lube to get it to pop. Have some one hold up on the interior latch while you try 'slapping down' on the front of the hood with your hands and if that doesn't work, try the spray through the grill area. Use the long tool with a flashlight to try pushing the latch from the grill area. Good luck!

My 1989 Volvo 240 gl hood won't open cable doesn't pop hood, what can i do to open it

You have 2 choices. You can try to grab the cable through the grill, cut it then see if the wire can then be pulled to release the hood.
Another option is to go from underneath with big screwdriver to move the latch thus releasing the hood latch. Not sure if you can get access to it on this vehicle easily. try a flashlight and from under the car reach way up into the latch area.

Cant open hood volvo 850

This is a common problem on these older Volvos. Try pulling up on the hood (after hitting the hood release in the car) and then push the latch in and then lift up again while pulling the latch out.

The latch to pop the hood is broken. It will not pop at all. How do i open it??

The hood is actually latched twice. One latch releases when you pull the handle under the dash, then you have to raise the hood a bit and release the second latch under the front / middle part of the hood. I have had to pop the hood with a long screwdriver from the front through the grill when the cable broke. If you can see this through the grill you might be able to open it this way.

Hi, just tried to open the bonnet of my audi a6 '96 plate and only one of the two locks seem to open as only one side pops up meaning the lever does not come out of the grill to allow the bonnet to pop up....

You will be able to open the hood if you pull off your splash guard and use a long long flat head screwdriver or something like that. You'll see the hood latch in front of the radiator with the cable attached to it at the top near the hood, put it on the drivers side edge of the bottom of the latch and pry to the passenger side, the lever moves from the drivers side to the passengers side, the cable basically pulls the top of it to achieve this. so your doing the same thing on the bottom with the screwdriver.

Release the latch from underneath by the lever that you have to pry towards the passenger side. Then open the hood, and repair or replace the safety release mechanism. This is very simple to remove out from the hood.

How do I open the hood of a Mitsubishi L300 ?

  1. Locate the interior hood-release lever under the dashboard on the driver's side of the interior of the car.

  2. 2

Lift up and toward you on the hood release lever. The lever is connected to a cable that releases the hood. The hood will pop up about 1/2 inch when you pull the lever.

  3. 3

Move to the front of the car and locate the exterior hood-release lever under the front of the hood. It is located near the middle of the vehicle, just beyond where the front edge of the hood meets the body. Lift up on the inner lever.

  4. 4

Lift up on the edge of the hood while holding the inner lever in place. When the hood is up, find the hood prop and raise it, setting its tip in the hood-prop mount on the hood, to hold the hood up while you work in the engine bay.

Unable to open hood of Volvo

I have a '95 and the lever is beside the drivers left leg. You pull this lever and then go out and lift up the hood about an inch. A second lever shows out the front grill. You pull this second lever to release the safety catch so you can open it the rest of the way.
