Diagnostic Plug on 2000 Chevy Cavalier (4dr base

My 2000 Chevy Cavalier (4dr base model) gives no power when plugged into a diagnostic code machine.(Plug located on underside of steering column) I have checked all the fuses in the driver's side fuse panel, all are fine. No apparent loose or bare wires. There is an on-time payment system grounded to the mounting bracket which supports the diagnostic plug. That is my nearest guess to the nature of the problem. Anyone have anything else in mind?

I don't know when this question was originally posted, but I have the same problem. I will add that my 12 volt power accessory recep has no power as well.

My 1998 chevy cavalier will not fire

battery good? will it turn over?
if good and turns over, check fuses on ignition; might be under hood near battery and also check the ones under dash.
get a diagnostic tool and plug in and get codes will be the fastest way of finding out the problem.
have you taken the plug out and see if it fires..if so, then coil is good. computer could be bad also.
has it jumped timing? whens the last time the timing belt was changed.
good luck

Misfire cyl's 1,3,6

Have you tried replacing the ignition coils? If they get old and stop working, or if they're damaged, they won't send a strong enough spark to the plugs. AutoZone (I think) apparently does free diagnostic codes for a check engine light. I don't know if you have a check engine light on or not, but maybe the light burned out? It might be worth a try to call them and ask if they can check the codes for you for free.

PCM Troubleshooting Check light on with no code reader power

You can't jump the connector to get codes on OBD II. (Pre 1996) Try hooking back up you code reader. If it doesn't communicate, check the fuse for the cig lighter. This fuse should also power up the diagnostic plug.

Diagnostic

Check your fuse panel for a fuse panel. You are probably not getting power to your diagnostics port on your vehicle. I do not remember which fuse the port is under but just look for the blown one.

2000 chevy cavalier w/ new 2002 engine using way too much gas

Take it to chevy so they can run a diagnostic on the car's onboard computer. Its likely that the computer was setup for the 2.2 or 2.4 (if its a manual) Take it in, it may cost you a little, but they can tell you what needs to be corrected. it may need to be reprogrammed.
