Depends why the Failsafe was triggered. Read the codes would be a good way to start. Anyway, since the car wont start, it may be the crankshaft position sensor, which will cause a trans failsafe and prevent the car from starting.

SOURCE: BMW X5 Trans Fail Safe Program,

sometimes it will clear if you turn the X5 off and restart it. however, it could be an early indication that the tranny is about to expire. i have had it happen and it cleared with a power cycle, but also had friends where it cleared for a few weeks/months and returned. this time it was really the transmission that went bad. if you can't get it to clear, then i'd suggest taking it to the dealer and have them plug into it to have a better look.

SOURCE: 2006 BMW 325i E90 remote programming

That remote you purchased, did you remove your vehicle key from your old one and insert it into the new one? At the back of the remote there are pinch grips, pinch and pull to remove the key, you should have a plastic version of this key for your car, in the spare in the glovebox, unless it has been removed, check also in the owners manual folder, if you bought this car used it maybe in there. If you do not have the kaey that matches your car to put in the remote it will not program to the car. Hope this helps, let me know.

My engine fail safe program light came on now my BMW X5 2006 will not start

Check for other codes. A crank position sensor failure will cause a Trans fail and could prevent the engine from starting.

2006 BMW 750 Li My dynamic drive inactive light came on, then a generator fault light came on

BMW has been using electronically controlled automatic transmissions in most models since the late 80s. These transmission systems employ a transmission control unit which controls electrical solenoids to manipulate the various control and shift valves and functions in the transmission valve body. When the transmission control unit detects a problem that it thinks could be damaging to the transmission or engine, it goes into a fail-safe or limp mode. In this mode, the transmission will function in reverse normally, but in forward it will operate in only one gear (whether you have the shifter in D, or any of the lower gears). This will typically be 3rd or 4th gear, depending on the model. It will start in this gear and stay in this gear with no shifting. You would experience this as sluggish acceleration and higher than normal engine speed at about 40 mph and above.

If you must drive the vehicle when the transmission is in the fail safe mode, accelerate gently and keep the road speed lower than full highway speed.

Earlier models do not employ fault codes and must be diagnosed manually. Late models do employ fault codes and a diagnostic/scan machine can be used to check and read the faults to assist in diagnostics. Note that this is not your common OBDII engine management fault code tool. This is what A BMW dealer or a properly equipped independent shop would have for full vehicle system diagnostics and coding operations.

Trying to jump start a 2006 750 Li BMW. Lights turned on after 40mins but car still won't start. Dashboard help screen says engine malfunction due to reduced power.

the ground wire needs to go to a better ground then the strut bolt. find a better thick piece of steel on the engine to ground. those cables look very thin. It should start right away not after 40min. your boosting not charging the battery. if you cant get it started with a better ground location try a thicker set of cables and make sure the other car is running. if this fails your battery needs to be replaced

My x5 3.0i 2006 t won't start this morning but temperature, gas level clock were wrong so I turn the engine off and restart a couple times it won't start and I saw message trans. false safe...

no. I'd suggest to disconnect a battery for 15 mins, reconnect, wait for 5 mins and try to restart. If it doesn't help (sometimes there's a program block to prevent stealing equipment) call a dealer

Fail safe engine mode light pops on after driving a while. What does this mean?

It means your vehicle has an emissions or driveability fault code stored in the computer's memory. Fail safe will disable cruise control and possibly overdrive to prevent component damage. It also allows the vehicle to run on factory pre-programmed parameters so that you won't be stranded-depending on the problem.

My BMW 520i starts up when cold but when it's warmed up and I turn engine off it won't start it's a 1997 straight six tiptronic whats causing this?

If the engine cranks but fails to fire, the car may be flooding due to a failed temperature sensor. There are several, but the most likely problem would be the water temperature sensor.
If the engine fails to crank when hot, the starter motor is failing and will need to be replaced.

BMW x5 warning light fiasco

Hello This is Mike,,

Sometimes.... Sometimes this will take care of some of those faults and codes, and it only takes a few minutes to do. I know your problem is not exact as this reset method says, but however you would be amazed on this fixes a lot of things, it like a cheap way to reset computer and fixes a lot of things back to default mode. Try it and let me know. Mike

IT'S VERY EASY TO RESET THE TRANSMISSION'S COMPUTER. HOLD GAS PEDAL DOWN. TURN THE KEY TO THE NUMBER TWO. CONTINUE TO HOLD THE GAS PEDAL DOWN FOR THIRTY SECONDS.RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL AND PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR TEN SECONDS. NOW YOU CAN TURN THE VEHICLE ON. THAT SHOULD TAKE IT OUT OF SAFE MODE
