Can the kill switch on a 2000 montero sport be bypassed by shorting across both starter solenoid terminals when the key is on? Have tried everything else.

if I ever run across a "how to steal a car" section, I'd be happy to post replies that will injure the person trying to bypass anti-theft systems.
I have posted half a dozen replies to this affect today alone.
If you are in need of bypassing anti-theft systems, the best bet is to take it to a shop....or tow it.

I hope you can see through my sarcasm and realize that posting the correct answer would just teach car thieves new tricks.

I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero . Alternator problems

Verify your connections at the battery, not just for being tight but for corrosion as well, on the terminal and the cable.

Also check for oil on the bottom of the alternator. The right hand cam seal is notorious for leaking directly onto the alternator, killing them quickly.

That all being said, I haven't seen an aftermarket alternator last on a Montero for more than a month or two; so if your new ones are not OEM, you might consider getting a genuine one if your corrosion and oil leak checks are OK.

1990 montero no start. No power to open injectors, good fuel pump

Check the injector pulses with an osciliscope. If you arent getting a pulse check the ecu. I have cooked 2 of them. One killed my ignition but had good fuel. the second time it wouldnt open the injectors but had good spark. A quick check is to take the ecu out and take the cover off. then look for burnt electrical components.

95 montero sr

Do all the warning lights in the instrument cluster come on when you turn the key? If Yes, then you need to check the neutral safety switch on the side the transmission[Automatic in your Montero?], as these are a known failure part for higher mile Monteros. You lose power to the starter solenoid as a result of the switch contacts going bad. Have someone put a test light on the solenoid wire at the starter motor, while you or a friend carefully tries to start the engine. If the circuit is working correctly, you'd see the test light turn on brightly. I'm betting you'll see no light, since I suspect the switch isn't letting power through.
