Bmw 1 series hydraulics

Hi. I own a bmw 1 series which is 3.5 yrs old and less than 35000 driven. Some warning light came up on my dash board and i went to a BMW dealer only to find out that the hydraulics of my car had failed and will cost me 1900£ to get fixed. According to the dealer nothing i have done could have possibly contributed to this problem. Can someone please enlighten me on the problem and the possible solutions Also if i have not contributed to the fault then should the BMW not be paying for the repairs considering that the car is only 3.5 yrs old?
Is this a common problem???
All help would be greatly appreciated
Many Thanks

My 1984 bmw 325e DASH BOARD LIGHTS dont work

Check a couple things:

1. Verify that the dimmer switch for the dash lights isn't in the full dim position (it turns off the dash lights).

2. Check your fuse panel (in the engine compartment) for a blown fuse.

Hi. I own a bmw 1 series wgich is 3.5 yrs old and less than 35000 driven. Some warning light came up on my dash board and i went to a BMW dealer only to find out that the hydraulics of my car had failed...

I would take the car to a private garage and have them check out this problem. If it is a BMW fault then you should not have to pay for anything.if Its a manifacture fault.

Dsc hydraulic unit failure

I have the same fault , that has just occured out of the blue only 38,000 on clock.
Drives perfectly and brakes fine too.
Warning light indicates Suspension Stability control
but diagnosed as yours at the same cost.
Apparently quite a common fault with series 1 , but BMW do not tell you that !!

Pc board

This solution may be too late but will help others with same problem.
The E30 series have 2 rechargeable batteries on the (Service Indicator) SI board WHEN FITTED. located within the dash unit ( tacho/speedo/temp/fuel Unit) they have a life span of 6 years however mine lasted 17years not bad for a rechargeable batt
anyway back to the point the effects of a buggered batts are
  • Inconsistent taco and temp guages
  • background radio noise (old model radios)
  • and THE INABILITY TO TURN SERVICE LIGHTS OFF !
The batts can be found in CONRAD (germany) MAPLIN (uk)
the cos of the batts are approx £3
the new board costs direct from BMW with trade discount approx £200 in 2007
have fun (soldering required to replace batts) :-]
