mae sure trans is at correct level should be a vent close to top of trans make sure it is not plugged. that would cause a trans to pressurize and find the weakest point. just a shot

SOURCE: SLIGHT KNOCKING NOISE - LOWER

This is a good diagnoses. When cooled get down and grab the exhaust pipe in the area you think the noise is coming from and give it a shake. You may find that all that is needed is a slight adjusting of one of the hangers. Good luck

What is the tapping noise coming from the transmission (axod)1989 ford Taurus.

On my Mercedes, it says to only fill it up with premium fuel. If I fill it up with regular unleaded it will knock and ping.

What could be causing my transmission to knock while in reverse? Its a 1993 wrangler with a 5 speed manual.

when you say knock does it knock once or keep knocking as you back up i would check ujoints for play and check your trans mount its rubber andis glued to metal over time the come apart and then will allow trans to move and make noise if its not either of those two then could be in rear diff

Loud ping in transmission shifting from reverse to drive, automatic also noise in transmission while shifting.

It is possible you have u-joints that are failing. You should be able to have someone get underneath the vehicle and check your drive shaft at both ends. (transmission and differential. Also make sure your vehicle is not idling higher than normal. If this is not the issue, you should see a transmission shop. Read the reports on them before going to thier shop. There are a lot of crappy ****** shops out there. There should be reorts on the web that you can research and find a good reliable shop.

I have a 99 mustang gt & I know it needs either a pilot bearing or throwout bearing, but it started making a knocking noise when the car reaches @ 2200 rpm & stops after I shift gears! Does not...

your description is not clear. the throwout and pilot bearing only work when the pedal is depressed. and dont make knocking noises, so rule that out. If the noise is when the car is moving and in gear, the trans maybe bad. makes noise in all gears at 2200 rpm? trans needs to come apart.

I have a 2004 Buick Park Avenue Ultra that has a knock in the engine when the trans is in gear. Knock goes away when trans is in neutral. What so you think? I am scheduled to take the care to dealer in...

Its kinda hard the say from what you have said but it could be whats called a u joint there is one on each end of the drive shaft they allow the drive shaft to move with the suspension but if the vehicle was in gear you could hear a knocking or cluncking noise because its hooked derrictly to the transmission

1998 VW Cabrio loud humming from what sounds like the transaxle

Have you checked that the noise is not tyre noise?
Interchange the wheels front to rear (or left to right) to see if it has any effect on the noise.

Only do the test below if the car is securely chocked so as not to move, take great care not to contact moving parts!
Securely jack both the car drivewheels off the ground, then 'drive' the vehicle through through the problem drive speed/gears while listening for the noise. If the noise occurs under these circumstances you may be able to further localise the source by listening (very carefully!)with a short hose pipe held to the ear.

91 GMC Siera 4x4 1500 automatic transmission slipping

Yes the trans can wipe out the crank bearings or the spacer behind the crank(forget what its called) it can let the flexplate move and the bolts can hit. That may be what your hearing. Does it still have good oil pressure?
