This is a lenghty job!! You would have to remove the plastic engine cover to locate the plugs (cover that has the lexus symbol). There are 3 coils(black squarish units) on the front head and another three in the rear head. You must remove these to access the sprakplugs. Front is very easy!! The rear is difficult, you would have to remove the intake(special tools are needed) to access the rear coils and sparkplugs. hopefully this helps

SOURCE: where is the ignition coil

the back plugs are under the intake plenum. Tey can be changed without pulling the plenum but for a novice it may be easier to remove the plenum. The fronts are under the engine cover that says v-6...3000..v v t i, etc. Remove that cover and you will either see three coils or three wires. The plugs will be under those.

The tall center light is located behind the upper hatch inside panel. There are two panels need to remove. One panel is on the right, the other on the left. To remove the panels you have to use flat screw driver to pry out the panel in several locations. (These panels are secured by several small metal clips.) Be careful to collect all these clips and replace them on the back of the panel. You will need these clips to replace the panel later on. After remove the panels, you will be able to locate the screws on the tall center stop light assembly. Remove those screws and cover. After replacing light bulb. Assemble everything in reverse order. Remember, the metal clips have to set on the back of the two panels not the car body.

How do I do a Tune up for 99 Lexus RX300

Spark plugs and an air filter usually pep them up.. and will be the cheapest in the long run... IF - you are experiencing problems... then a qualified professional assist may be in order... I would do the plugs and filter first... just to see how it runs afterward...

My 1999 lexus Rx300 has misfires. we recently replaced all sparkplugs and it still continues. we are getting reading codes of P 0300, 0301,0303,0305 plus p1305,1315 and 1325. My local part department...

Replacing plugs is not a complete tuneup. Problem could be in plug wires or in coil that fires the plug. If you lookup codes and identify cylinders that are misfiring, try disconnecting that plug wire on both ends (plug on one end, coil on the other) and substituting a different one temporsrily. If your coils are mounted directly to the plug, try swapping coils between cylinders to see if the problem shifts to a different cylinder.
