I can't get my 2006 Chevy Malibu to go into drive

It has electric power steering and there is a fault with it. The ECM recognises this and won't left you drive it.

There was a recall on it.

Only 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx, and Pontiac G6 models built between April and June 2006 are included in this recall. Possible Gear issue. Might wanna check local mechanic.

Check your ground wire to lights with DVOM; should read battery voltage from park light terminal of socket to the ground wire. If voltage is low you have a poor ground connection; if not, you may have a bulb/socket shorting across to park lamp ckt.

Your power steering pump may be leaking or not working. Does it make loud humming noises?

Use the supplied fues puller or a needle nose pliers and pull the old one out and press the new one in. Very simple

yes your problem is the motor. theres a new part number to replace that one. and correct not only malibu but also cobolt has the same problem
