CarGurusApr 6, 2014 - Your cars computer gathers info on speed in order to shift gears properly.... then you won't have a speedo and the ECM will not tell the TCM to shift gears in the trans. .... Car: 2003 Dodge Neon SXT, automatic transmission.
input and out put speed sensors tell the TCM and the ECM the difference between engine rpms and transmission input roms so that the correct gear ratio can be selected
A speedo sensor reads the out put shaft (drive line ) shaft and refers to road speed for speed and odometer readings and to calculate the fuel consumption rate
it is possible that you have replaced the wrong sensor
Talk with an accredited transmission specialist shop and have the problem diagnosed
Maybe the speedometer connection at the transmission might be interfering with the shift lever at the transmission. Not sure if this would apply to the 2002 Neon but on some older model cars I believe it could happen. Just a thought.
The speedometer is operated by a cable to the transmission. The gear selector is also a manual linkage. Neither are electronic. There may be something stuck underneath inferring with them directly.
some of these have had problems with the dash assembly causing alot of problems with gauges and lights and speedometers.if there are no codes in the computer and weren`t any before you replaced the vss sensors then you spent money you didn`t need to.
Need to access the PCM with a scan tool and see if the vehicle speed sensor is still working. If it is, the problem is most likely in the instrument cluster and a junkyard part would be a good solution. If you have no VSS operation, that's your problem.
