No light on dash when parking brake engaged

I have a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD, 6cyl,4.0L, Awd, Auto. When I engage the parking brake the brake indicator light on the dash DOES NOT light. The light is working because when I turn on the ignition it goes on with all the other gauges. Is there such a thing as a parking brake switch or sensor or relay? If so could that be the problem and how do I fix. Thank You In Advance for your help.

Ther is a micro-switch on the park brake linkage and it is either defective or out of adjustment.

is this light on the dash the same one that iluminates when you engage the hand brake" if so it may be a faulty micro switch that operates when hand brake is applied they are useually located at the base of the leaver.. hope this helps. regards steve..

It sounds as though you have a frozen emergency brake cable. This usually will wear down the rear brake shoes to a point where they are metal to metal. Get them fixed asap.

this is most likely a a lack of r-134a (as freon is no longer used), if your system is completely out or close to it then the pressure sensor will not allow the compressor clutch to engage, it is also possible that there is an electrical issue but less likely. to know for sure you need to put some gauges on the system
