Im overheating i changed water pump twice thermestat 1 purged system 5 times i did find a leak coming from somthing connected to the block on driver side middle of block behind the thermastat is that why im still overheating 99 chevy malibu 6 cylinder 3.1

It could be the thermostat or the water pump. Even if your heater core were plugged, the engine would not overheat from it, you would just have no heat. And if the thermostat were stuck closed, but the heater core was good, you would still get heat from heater while the engine was overheating. So it kind of points toward the water pump, unless neglect had allowed both the heater core to plug and the thermostat to stick closed. I mean neglect from not regularly changing the coolant every two years about. Overheating can be as simple as a low coolant level, so you should check that, and check for leaks. Before you go for the cost to replace the water pump, you should first have the system pressure tested, or have a compression test done to check the internal condition of the engine and to make sure you don't have a blown head gasket. Who did the job? If you did it it privately, possible you did not do the whole job. You have to bleed the system for air comes out of the cooling system, also check if the timing belt is correct fitted.And last check if the cooling fan is working.
First, you must have a properly installed thermostat that is working correctly. Second, Northstar engines are notorious for air in the cooling system after draining and refilling - keep checking the purge tank level after overheating and after the cooling system cools down. Third, make sure your cooling fans are working correctly (relay, fuse, temperature sensor) - check to make sure both are running when it overheats. If all the above is correct, the problem will probably be blockage in the system (try a flush) or your water pump itself is failing.
If there is definately no air in the system and everything is working properly have you changed the pressure cap on the expansion bottle? Very unusual but if everything else is ok then it might be worth a shot. Caps have a pressure release mechanism biult into them.
the lose of pressure is causing the overheating, VW and most other German cars, require that the cooling system be sealed to hold the pressure in order to maintain the right temperature. The leak in what I am guessing is the water pump is causing the system to lose pressure therefore it is going to gain heat. In other words repair the leak and you will fix the overheating issue.
The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system. There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank(not the cap),this is the purge line. With the engine idling,pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage.The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side to near the thermostat housing,the blockage may be there.
any external leaks?coolant stains? would check the intake for signs of leakage also the heater hose quick connect.also check the sides of the block for leakage from the core plugs.
