SOURCE: cruise control won't work

Does the on light in the dash come on? If not, you may have a broken switch in the steering wheel which is a fairly cheap repair. Otherwise, the controls work through the Printed Circuit Board in your dash (your instrument cluster) and the problem could be as simple as a solder defect or faulty component. The problem is that no Ford Service Technician that I know will touch this and tell you that you need to replace it.

The instrument cluster is very easy to replace but may cost you a few more dollars than you want to spend. I would have someone with an electrical background check the cruise control switches in your steering wheel with a multimeter before going any further with this. Also check the wiring for resistance leading from the switch to the cluster.

SOURCE: Need to reprogram key less entry

Keyless Entry Keypad FAQ Ford Explorer
The keypad can be operated with the factory set 5-digit entry code
You can use the keyless entry keypad to

  • Lock or unlock the doors without using a key.
  • Open the liftgate window.
  • Activate or deactivate the autolock feature.

Where the code can be found
  • This code is located on the owner's wallet card in the glove box
  • Is available from your authorized dealer via scan code
  • Is marked on the computer module

Computer Module location
  • 1995 thru 2001 is located in the jack storage compartment in the rear of your Explorer. First remove the panel to the jack storage compartment. Towards the front of this area you should see a metal box this is your auto-lock module(way up front next to your rear left passenger seat). On the back side of this is your 5 digit code factory preset code. It is hard to get to. To see it you will have to loosen, pull, use a flashlight or a mirror but it can be done.

  • 2002 thru 2007 is in the right panel behind the middle row window. It is below the seat belt mechanism. You have to pull out the top plastic panel off, then loosen the lower panel to be able to see the face of the computer module. The code is on a sticker on the face of the module.

Programming a personal entry code The factory set code cannot be reprogrammed but you can create your own 5digit personal entry code. When pressing the controls on the keypad, press the middle of the controls to ensure a good activation.
Up to three personal entry codes may be programmed to the vehicle. To create your own personal entry code:

  • 1. Enter the factory set code.
  • 2. Within five seconds press the 1 2 on the keypad.
  • 3. Enter your personal 5-digit code. Each number must be entered within five seconds of each other.
  • 4. Press 1 2, 3 4 or 5 6 to indicate which of the three personal entry code positions you wish to use.
  • 5. The doors will again lock then unlock to confirm that your personal key code has been programmed to the module.
Tips:

  • Do not set a code that uses five of the same number.
  • Do not use five numbers in sequential order.
  • The factory set code will work even if you have set your own personal code.
  • If you program a code to a position that already contains a set code, the previously-set code will be erased.

Erasing personal code
  • 1. Enter the factory set 5digit code.
  • 2. Within five seconds, press the 1 2 on the keypad and release.
  • 3. Press and hold the 1 2 for two seconds. This must be done within five seconds of completing Step 2.
All personal codes are now erased and only the factory set 5digit code will work.

Anti-scan feature If the wrong code has been entered 7 times (35 consecutive button presses), the keypad will go into an anti-scan mode. This mode disables the keypad for one minute and the keypad lamp will flash.

The anti-scan feature will turn off after
  • One minute of keypad inactivity.
  • Pressing the UNLOCK control on the remote entry transmitter.
  • The ignition is turned to the 3 (ON) position.

Unlocking and locking the doors, liftgate and liftgate window using keyless entry
  • To unlock the drivers door, enter the factory set 5-digit code or one of the vehicles personal codes.
  • Each number must be pressed within five seconds of each other. The interior lamps will illuminate.
  • To unlock all doors and liftgate, press the 3 4 control within five seconds.
  • To open the liftgate window, press the 5 6 control within five seconds.
  • To lock all doors, liftgate and liftgate window, press the 7 8 and the 9 0 at the same time.

  • Note: The drivers door must be closed. You do not need to enter the keypad code first.

Deactivating/activating autolock
  • Your vehicle comes with the autolock feature enabled.
Note: The autolock feature can be activated/deactivated independently of the autounlock feature.
Before following the activation or deactivation procedures, make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed, ignition is in the 1 (OFF/LOCK)position, and all vehicle doors, liftgate and liftgate window are closed.
*Keyless entry key pad procedure

  • 1. Turn the ignition to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position.
  • 2. Close all doors, the liftgate and liftgate window.
  • 3. Enter 5digit entry code
  • 4. Press and hold the 3 4. While holding the 3 4 press the 7 8.
  • 5. Release the 7 8.
  • 6. Release the 3 4.
The user should receive a horn chirp to indicate the system has been disabled or a chirp followed by a honk to indicate the system has been enabled.
Autounlock The autounlock feature will unlock all the doors when: the ignition is in the 3 (ON) position, all the doors are closed, and the vehicle has been in motion at a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h); the vehicle has then come to a stop and the ignition is turned to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) or 2 (ACC) position; and the driver door is opened within 10 minutes of the ignition being transitioned to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) or 2 (ACC) position.
Note: The doors will not autounlock if the vehicle has been electronically locked before the driver door is opened.

  • 4. Press and hold the 3 4. While holding the 3 4 press the 7 8 twice.
  • 5. Release the 7 8.
  • 6. Release the 3 4.
The user should receive a horn chirp to indicate the system has been disabled or a chirp followed by a honk to indicate the system has been enabled.
The keyless entry touch pad can use two codes. The factory code and one
personal code .
To program your own personal code, select a 5 digit code that doesn't use 5 digits in
sequence or the same button 5 times.
Enter your factory code
Within 5 seconds press the 1/2 button
Within 5 seconds of pressing the 1/2 button, enter your 5 digit personal code,
pressing each digit within 5 seconds of the previous digit.
You can now use either code to operate the keypad

Setting FOB to work with your vehicle
  1. Sit in car, doors closed. Electronically unlock all doors using the power door unlock switch on the driver's door.
  2. Insert key into ignition switch and turn from OFF to ON 8 times within 10 seconds with the 8th time ending in the ON position. (5 times on some models)

How do I completely shut off the pats anti theft system to be able to start myg 2002 Ford f150 with out my key

U can't , software programmed into the computers . You would need to have computer re manufacturer delete pats an reprogram PCM - IPC - which ever control modules control the anti-theft system . Because if the PCM - engine computer does not see a coded message from the PATS module IPC - instrument cluster etc.. it won't engage the starter an or fuel injectors . It would cost less to have it fixed right by a qualified repair shop. or mobile lock smith .

How to access 2002 ford explorer control module

To locate the BCM remove the passenger side instrument panel insulator.Disconnect the negative battery cable. You should be able to see the BCM tucked up behind the dash panel. Will have three wire pack connectors. You have to reprogram the new one when installed. You can not get another, from a salvage yard and make it work. Either go to dealer, or someone who can reprogram it for you. God-Bless!!

Publication Date: May 25, 2006
FORD: 2001-2005 Escape
ISSUE: Some 2001-2005 Escape vehicles equipped with a 3.0L engine may exhibit idle speeds outside the specified range. Some 2001-2003 Escape vehicles equipped with a 3.0L engine and CD4E automatic transaxle may exhibit a transmission shudder.
ACTION: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
  1. If the concern is a 2001-2005 Escape with idle speeds outside the specified range:
    1. Install a new idle air control (IAC) valve with jumper harness included in the kit. The new Denso brand IAC will be installed with the electrical connector facing the opposite direction of the original (Hitachi) valve which is why the jumper harness is required. The original (Hitachi) IAC connector faces the front of the vehicle while the new Denso IAC connector faces toward the rear of the vehicle.
    2. Referring to the calibration charts (Figures 1 and 2), select the applicable file and reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) using the TSB Service Procedure and WDS/IDS release B40.5 and higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com.
  2. If the concern is a 2001 - 2003 Escape with transaxle shudder, drain, flush and refill the transmission fluid with MERCON® Multi-Purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid. Then, referring to the calibration charts (Figures 1 and 2), select the applicable file and reprogram the PCM using the TSB Service Procedure and WDS/IDS release B40.5 and higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com.
  3. When reprogramming the PCM use blank path programming. Select the proper file from the chart and manually enter the PCM part number or tear tag number to obtain the updated calibration file.
To Perform Blank Path Programming:
  1. Connect WDS/IDS to vehicle.
  2. Select "16 pin", select "All others, except those below", press TICK.
  3. Screen shows installation of cable, press TICK.
  4. Screen shows to turn ignition ON. DO NOT TURN IGNITION ON. Press TICK.
  5. Screen shows progress bar, then screen tells you "No communication can be established with the PCM" and asks you if you want to retry? Select "NO". With the ignition key still OFF, press TICK.
  6. Screen shows to turn ignition ON. Keep ignition in the "OFF" position, press TICK and you will be asked to cycle the key "ON" and "OFF" a few times. Please keep the key position in the "OFF" position through the key cycles.
  7. Screen will show "The diagnostic tester is unable to communicate with this vehicle." You will be prompted to "select a vehicle from the vehicle list", press TICK.
  8. A list of vehicles will be displayed, select ALL OTHERS, and press TICK.
  9. Screen shows "To enable WDS to reprogram the PCM with the correct calibration", enter one of the following: Vehicle Calibration number (7 digits), Tear Tag number (4 digits), or PCM part number, press TICK.
  10. Highlight the box next to the selection chosen, and enter ONLY ONE of the selections listed above. Press TICK.
  11. Follow and answer correctly all remaining screens. Once PCM is reprogrammed communication should be reestablished and PATS system can be reset (if necessary) per Workshop Manual, Section 419-01.

Where is the ecm located at on a 2001 ford escape? I recently replaced the engine on my escape and my engine does not crank over. The theft light keeps flashing when I turn the ignition on. I'm thinking...

ECM is located in the engine compartment. Open the hood and before of you, in the called fire wall (up) you will see a maze of cables in a multipin conector. Unscrew it and you will find the Engine Control Module. Certainly, if you changed the engine and the ECM, the reprogramming must be executed.

You can not, if theft light flashing it will need to reprogram. This is some thing most lock smiths can do, some where between $75.00 and $150.00 at your home.Goodluck

No start

I'll give you a list of a few things that could be causing your problem. However, I think it's most likely a bad ignition module. I looked this up on the web and I see a lot of ignition module problems for the 2002 Escape. I checked the Ford recall list but there was no recall issued for what looks to be a very common problem with the ignition module.

Here are some other things that could be causing your problem.
1. Bad ignition coil
2. Clogged fuel filter
3. Clogged air filter
4. Clogged fuel injectors
5. Bad spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and /or rotor.
