SOURCE: 1998 gmc sonoma push button 4x4 busting diaphram vacuum actuator

On top of the transfer case is a vacuum switch with 3 vacuum lines connected to it. This switch controls when vacuum is applied to the vacuum actuator. This switch can fail partly and allow fluid from the transfer case to be sucked up into the vacuum lines and anything connected to them as well. When you replaced the actuator before, did you notice any oily fluid inside of it?

1998 GMC Sonoma. The fuel gauge is stuck on a bit over 1/2 tank, but it drops down to empty when I shut the engine off. Is it the sendin unit, or could it be something else? Thanks in advance.

If you don' having any wiring issues I would think you should look into the gauge.
The gauge has a memory. It is supposed to stay in its last position when the key is turned off. There would be no more power going to the gauge once they key is turned off so it can no longer read resistance to ground from the sender.

Where is the oil pressure sensor / sending unit on a 1998 GMC Sonoma with a 4.3l V6?

It is at the very top rear of the engine behind the intake to the right of the distributor on a thin lip of metal of the engine block.

My oil temp spiked then loss of power any suggestions?

yeah man, check your oil pressure sending unit....if its bad, replace it...i think GM ran the ground for the fuel pump through this sensor, allowing it the loss of power that you have described...
