yes but with the right shaped wrenches and tiny hands it can be done without removing the exhaust crossover pipe
SOURCE: 2003 Pontiac Montana antifreeze smell?
Bad News. I recently had the same type of smell ( no leaks or puddles either) coming from my van and had to have the intake manifold gasket replaced due to the Dex-cool issue. It appears GM installed an inadequate/substandard gasket when they built the van. My van only had 65,000 miles on it. There's a Dex-cool settlement you could have applied for but repairs had to be made by May of 2008.
This is the only real complaint I've had with the van.

there are 4 screws. two in the front behind the cup holder and two up underneath in the cupholder bay after the cupholder is removed. they are phillips head and 8mm I believe. this is all you need to remove the cover.

Remove the wheel, remove the hub nut, remove the brake caliper and rotor, put your socket and extension through the hub flange onto the bearing retainer bolts, undo them, release the abs sensor connector if it has it, remove the bearing and hub flange as an assembly, put the new one on and go backwards from here. Torque the hub nut to 180 ft/lbs, your done.

Bet the drain is clogged with leaves. Look under the blower motor under the hood. Can almost be that the cowling has been filled with leaves at one time or another. Got to clean that stuff out every now and then.
