Must be 4.2L engine the 2.5 is EFI TBI.(French EFI)
the 4.2 has computer controlled carb from H3LL
never ever buy a jeep like this, ever.
if hellbent on this bad car, to fix then buy the service manuals off fleabay.. (id not even hesitate there)

my guess is the carb is bad, what checks matters are.
fuel nozzles dead, is that.
1: fuel pressure at spec. not dribble tests. (no dribble yes, means pump dead) (using a real pressure gauge)
2: float level correct. ? if bowl dry bingo. !
3: jets not clogged, inside carb.
4; carb computer working (Tests stated in SM)
5: dead carb solenoids.

there is no worse car than a ECM controlled carb. horrid system.
ended in 91. as Chrysler took over..from AMC

join a real jeep forum and hear them moan, ?

2 fuses need to be good, F1 and F2, 1amp rated.
in the diode fuse assembly.
or the idle solenoid goes dead.

1990 jeep yj 4.2 straight 6 carburated will turn over but will not start

First try shooting some starting fluid in intake manifold, and if fires up but still won't keep running, my guess next would be your looking and checking out your fuel pump. You can check that out my removing a line and see if fuel is pumping out of the out put of fuel pump. Because it it carburated its pretty easy to trouble shoot. It's going to be in most cases spark plugs , fuel pump.

I have a 1990 jeep wrangler I put a new fuel pump in the gas tank and it is getting fuel to the outlet side of the fuel filter but I am not getting any fuel to the carb.I is fuel injected but it is not...

Not sure I remember this correctly, but with older cars that have carburetors, fuel is feed into carb via suction. Maybe you have a failing vakuum pump that's suppose to deliver the suction. If possibly have your error codes read via the OBD portal of your car, you can do this yourself if you have a OBD scanner or have a shop do it for you, shouldn't cost more than 100 bucks to have them scan the ECU or any error codes logged on the ECU. It could be the pump but you need to verify if you can hear the pump running after it stalls and you turn the key back on to try and start it. If you don't hear it it isn't running.
The pump is inside the tank but it dosen't come inside, you need to put it in there. That requires removing the tank. On a 90, there is a filter mounted on the chassis near the left rear tire. I'd replace that first as if you replace the pump, that should be replaced as well and if it's plugged up it may in fact be the only problem.

1987 jeep wrangle will not start or run

Uncouple the fuel line coming from the pump at the carburetor, place a clean can under the line, and have someone operate the starter--you should have fuel shoot from the line in spurts as the engine turns. If it does, then the entry port on the carburetor is plugged. Remove the float assembly and pull out the float needle valve. Hook the fuel line back to the carburetor and try the starter again, there should be fuel pumping into the float bowl. If not, check to see if there is a filter on the fuel inlet path that may be plugged. If no filter, remove the float needle seat to see if something is blocking the fuel passage. If all else fails, use compressed air to blow backwards through the needle seat (remove the fuel line again). Hope some of this helps!

1990 jeep yj 2.5L idles over 2200 after engine warms up.

It may be a bad idle control valve. spray some brake cleaner or other fuel cleaning spray directly into the idle Control valve.it is located right inside where the air cleaner duct work is removed towards the fuel system This gets dirty and builds up gunk . making you car run bad. I hope this helps you. If it does, place a vote.
