I assume the noise only occurs when the truck is moving. A few things you could start with - look for something being dragged or rubbing in a wheel well, a failing CV or u-joint on the drive line, or a wear indicator dragging on one of the brake rotors.

Well ,what do you expect ? Vehicles can make grinding noises form a lot of different places . Take to someone who can hear it . Anyone on here would be just guessing . If i told your it was a wheel bearing , what would you do ? Replace all the wheel bearing's ?????? Or maybe it's inside the engine or transmission . Take it to someone who can listen to it .

SOURCE: have a gmc 2005 sierra the 4x4 doesn't work. when

Don't go tearing into this yet! It could be your transfer case encoder motor if it is wearing out it could be making a lot of noise when trying to shift. And if it can't shift into 4 wheel it will automatically go back to 2 high eventually your 4h button wont allow you to try and shift it and it will automatically go into neutral if you try. But if this isn't your problem your looking at a problem in your planetary gears because everything else is moving already in your transfer case that is the only thing I can think of unless its a problem in your front end. Three things mechanically when you shift into 4 wheel drive your encoder motor shifts your actuator in your front end engages and your gear selector fork moves your sprocket from 2h to 4h in your planetary in the transfer case good luck. I put my money on the shift encoder motor. I'm no expert just a poor guy who fixes his own rigs, I own a 2004 gmc sierra and have dealt with 4 wheel problems in the past good luck.

I have a 2002 gmc sierra 2 wheel drive and when I take off initially and when I turn left I hear a grinding/grumling noise.

Loose or damaged Wheel-Bearing causing other parts to rub together, like the brake components or your wheels are too big or shocks weak, or exhaust hanging and are rubbing against something.
Perhaps oil is leaking from your rear axle housing dut to bad seals (check inner of wheels) and around axle housing - remove plug and check that your finger can reach in and touch it. Could be a sign of rear end failure or simply the backing plates on the brakes behind the rotors and the drums (steel disk) sometimes rust on the drums can grind against the backing plates if they are weak or warped (clean this area).

2002 Sierra: grinding/scrapping noise when turning right...

the noise is possibly coming from your driveshaft( axle) CV joint, its probably damaged thats why is making abnormal noise. i would suggest to bring it a competent garage since replacing it requires proper tooling expertise and experience and its a complex exercise to DIY.

Could be a starter sticking but that would cause more of a grinding noise, my best guess is that your flex-plate(flywheel) is broken if the noise is coming from between the engine and transmission. Remove the access cover for the bell housing and take a look at the flex-plate.

1995 gmc sierra 4x4 shifter wont go in 4 wheel drive but will go in 4 low

my name is michael. You said it will go into 4 low but not into 4 hi. Have you lifted the truck to see if it is operational? Does your 4x4 light come on? Does it grind into either 4 hi or low? And one thing, has anyone ever taken the axle out on the right hand side? Please feel free to email me at [email protected].

GMC 2004 Sierra conditioner makes Darth Vader noises

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. Does the air conditioning works properly it's just the sound problem and did it happens suddenly?
For the strange sound, it could be normal and not.
I imagine the sound comes from the exchange pressure between the low pressure and high pressure.
To fix or knowing what is wrong you will have to get AC/pressure gauge install on AC/pressure tap under the hood and sync the compressor engaging clutch if it happens at the same time that the sound you are talking about.
Pretty hard to tell online without earing it. But I ever listen to a sound similar to that.

hope it helps
