Where is the water pump on a 1997 mazda 626 2litre

there is little benefit in trying to repair water pumps now as the kit and labour costs more than a new water pump. If your are going to do the job your self then when you have the pump off pay particular attention to the condition of the aluminium housing area behind the impellor as they corrode badly

Some restrictive pulley tension usually is what causes a good belt to wear prematurely. Sounds like the water pump may be the culprit all along...(one of 2 belts) Be sure to have the alternator itself tested (free) at most parts stores...could be a combination of concerns. Hope this helps.

Fan motor , fan relay, leaking coolant? Check for operation.

Try changing thermastat.

Mounted on top and inside the fuel tank. If you have to replace it, look for an access panel inside the car above the pump. It may or may not have one. If it does not you will have to remove the fuel tank in order to replace the pump.

I think $900 is way too much. Have another mechanic look at your truck.
