When I am driving my 1989 ford f150, it has a burning smell. When I turn it off a small amount of white smoke comes from under the hood, passenger side, behind engine. What could it be?

U HAVE A HEATER CORE LEAK, DOES THE SMOKE SMELL SICKY SWEET? AS FAR AS THE CEL GOES HAVE THE SYSTEM TESTED FOR FREE BY ANY KRAGEN AUTO OR AUTOZONE, JUST ASK FOR A OBD 2 TROUBLE CODE TEST, THEN POST THE CODE BACK HERE FOR US TO LOOK AT AND TRY AND DEVELOPE A FIX STRATEGY.

Sounds like you have a small coolant leak somewhere in the system.Open the hood and let the car run till it gets hot,see if you can spot a cracked hose or loose connection.If you're handy take off the old part,take it into your local auto supply store and get a replacement and some more coolant.Be carefull around the coolant it can be deadly to pets and humans alike. Failing this take the car in to have the cooling system pressure checked at your local garage.Keep an eye on your coolant level and check it when the engine is COLD. Good Luck

I would take it to a shop right away. Do you see any fluids on the ground after you park or are you low on coolant or oil? This could be a electrical problem on its own. If you don't know what your doing don't go messing around with it.

Is there a squealing noise like the pulley may have locked up? Make sure you don't have wiring getting hot.Check all areas near the exhaust and at the firewall area where the EGR piping comes off the exhaust.
Make sure nothing is laying against the exhaust or catalytic converter. don-ohio
