You may also want to replace the plastic guide clips while 'in there'. They fail all the time (become brittle with age). check www.regulatorfix.com

Driver door window off track i think, what exactly do i need to do to fix it myself?

Needs a new window regulator mechanism. VW window regulator problems are very common. The plastic cable guide wheels break and window drops down or jambs.

Last one I did was about $180.00 for a VW oe regulator kit.

The cable came off for my power window

definetly have to remove the inner. i would have to imagine that if it came off then you have to replace it, it is probably frayed or twisted. if it is frayed or twisted, there is no way to fix it. you have to replace it.

Driver window fell inside door

Their is no regulator problem here. The motor is fine.

What broke was a piece of plastic the locks the cable on the track.

Pretty much screwed. VW or an auto glass company wont help.

I have replaced all of my Passats window mechanisms.
I have even remade the piece that broke and saved my self $100.

All in all the panel is removed, THen the inner plates 12 bolts are removed. The window has to be taken out....

Not too much fun,....

Hope this helps.

98 VW Window Regulator

Do you have the metal assebly completely in front of you? And you've made sure all the cables are passed the same. If yes there should be an arrow type area on each pulley? Also each pulley should have a smaller and a larger area?
