The turn signals on my 2003 ford expidition keep fading, they start out clicking then fade away and eventually stop all together. Bulbs are fine and I just replaced fuse 10 and 20. nothing changed. The horn stops working sometimes also. Any suggestions ???

Replace the turn signal switch and it will alll go away.

  • Anonymous Jul 23, 2009

You should be able to change the turn signal switch it's under the dash I have had a few of them do what you describe something goes wrong withthe electronic flasher, I would try it first before taking it in, it will be near the fuse box under the dash and loks like a little can has two or three prongs on it, turn emergency flashers on to help locate it it will be next to the emergency flasher.

Well it sounds like you are loosing the alternator - could be the alternator itself or a connection in the harness. Things like diodes and relays can stop working in high heat conditions.
I would check the output of the alternator the next time the lights start dimming.

I'd suggest using the balance and fade controls to cut out each speaker one by one. to possibly determine if you have shorted speaker or speaker wiring. As far as the turn signal clicking noise, the hazard switch is the actual flasher unit for the turn signals, and could be the culprit, but the most likely cause is the turn signal switch itself. It is usually caused by corrosion across the contacts, which can be cleaned out fairly easily, but more typically, the switch is just replaced

2003 Ford Explorer Sport rear turn signal acting up

if it's only the rear turn signal that does this, check the plug where the bulb snaps in. if loose or bad connection to bulb, it will sometimes work and sometimes not. if its both the front and rear turn signal bulbs, could be the combination switch. these were common failures on fords

Radio continues to fade in and out, plays for awhile fades out

Need more information on this if possible.

It may be the speed volume is enabled on your radio, does it fade out when you start to come to a stop? Some vehicles have a speed volume setting in their radios in which the radio raises and lowers the volume during driving conditions, like when your comming to a stop, the volume will automatically lower and during faster driving speeds will rise to a higher volume.

Hope this helps

Are you sure the bulbs are dim? Could the problem be faded lenses? If so, like most of today's plastic lenses, get yourself a lens restoration kit and follow the instructions.
