Motorized seat adjustment stopped working. Air only blows out of vents. Not defrost or floor? Door locks only work with fob. Any ideas? Fuses are ok. 1997 GMC Safari.

My seat will move up and down on the switch, but no sound or movement on forward and back. Would the control module work up and down, but not forward and back?

  • Lawrence Oravetz Aug 13, 2017

Yes, A partial failure of the module will cause all sorts of abnormal operation.

What does the module look like and where would it be located

  • Lawrence Oravetz Sep 02, 2017

On some GM cars it's under the drivers seat. To be sure you can get a manual for your car at an auto parts store or browse internet for locations

How to repair

i'd think that the vent adjuster knob/slider is not working correctly strip out the heater panel around the control knobs and check the vent direction is working properly either stiff operation so a little wd40 on the cable would probably do the trick or some thing causing the vent itself to not move

AC is only blowing through the defrost vents in the dashboard?

I think your problem is the head unit that selects where the air comes out ie. Face, floor, defrost, or hi-level face and floor. If that's not working then it will not let you switch location that you want the air to come out.

Ac is blowing out of defrosterandnot panels in the dash. Air is cool cold air will blow out of rear seat panel/vent 1998 ford explored

The most common cause is a bad blend door actuator which controls air flow throughout the cabin. When air flow only flows from 1 section (either floor, vent, or defrost) it's an indication that the blend door actuator is either stuck or broken.

Your blend door is probibly not moving all the way to vent position. If you put it on vent there is probibly air blowing on floor or defrost. It may also be opening just a fraction and causing back pressure on the blower motor causing the noise. Is there any difference in outside air or recirculate?
