SOURCE: 2002 pontiac grand am 4 cylinder sedan cant pass emissions

not enough information so i will cover many possibilities:

new spark plugs would be a good place to start .. then replace the ignition wires, clean the coil insulator .. clean or replace the distributor cap .. when you replaced the O2 sensor that should have eliminated the "heater circuit" problem (the O2 sensor has a built in heater that gets it up to working temprature faster at warm up) .. .. if the wiring and connectors to the O2 sensor are ok then that fault code should go away .. multiple misfires will keep the trouble light on .. that could also be caused by a sticking or dirty injector or dirty throttle body.. you can use a good injector cleaner for that .also look for a cracked vacuum hose ... it would be good to know the present fault code since it should have changed once you installed the new O2 sensor .. there may be two O2 sensors (one later in the exhaust system) ..it sounds like you got the right one but make sure ..it may take some time for the computer to adjust to the new O2 sensor and for the injector cleaner to work .. make sure new plugs are gapped properly and use an "antiseize" compound on the threads .. that reduces the probability of the plugs sticking in their sockets .. on aluminum heads the plugs want to seize (or weld) in place after a long time. .. that makes them really hard to get out later .. just a tiny amount of antiseize compound on the theads helps a lot .. be careful not to overrtighten plugs in aluminum heads ..
if your engine is badly missing on one cylinder (you should easily detect that) then a sticking injector would be suspect .. there are some simple ways to get it working again if thats the case ..

SOURCE: i have been losing coolant but its not on the

Your coolant may be going somewhere else.
You may have a head gasket issue...
Pull the oil dipstick to see if its milky...
If so take it to a reputable mechanic and see what they find..

Inspect the O2 sensor after the Catalytic converter, make sure the lead wires are good and not damaged from corrosion and heat. If all wire leads seem to be good, replace the O2 sensor and try to stay away from after market sensors. They don't last long and as for your Catalytic Converter, you can check it by bang in on it to see if there are any rattles coming form the inside.
The good news about a bad Catalytic Converter is that Gm covers them under warranty for up to 8 years.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck

How do i reset my pontiac 2002 grand prix in orer to pass emissions?

A new cat what was the original code. Usually you need to drive the car for a while after changing a battery (1/2 hour to an hour) on the road so that the cpu as all the data it needs before going for etest especially the new etest machine. The place that change the cat is it the same place that is doing the emission test?

Evap and catalyst not ready smog reject

Sometimes this is because the thermostat is not warming up the engine - and sometimes it is because the battery was disconnected or the computer has lost memory and has not been driven enough to relearn yet.
A local garage that deals with smog tests in your area should be able to advise.

Ford explorer sportrac evap and catalyst not ready problem how to fix it?

One possible issue is a faulty thermostat. If the engine is not getting up to normal temp the emissions system will not go into closed loop.
I know its hot in Nevada now so thats just a suggestion.
The O2 sensors have heaters to make the exhaust gas hot quick so that the sensors can work.
Is the check engine light coming on - or is it just that the exhaust gas is not hot enough for the test equipment ?

Trying to get my 1997 honda civic smogged. Replaced the knock sensor about 800 miles ago. No check engine light is on. When I try to smog it i have three things not ready - the catalyst, the evap, and...

As a rule it takes about 50 miles for the computer to finish it's readiness tests. Some take longer so I would drive it about 75 miles and then check.

1999 Subruban 1500 LT Failed Emissions Test: Catalyst Not Ready EVAP Not Ready O2 Sens HTR Not Ready EGR Not Ready Fault Codes: No codes Present -------> Check Engine light is not on.

You may have a defective coolant or air temp sensor. These need to be accurate in order for some of the monitors to run. Your going to need a diagnostic scanner to see the data so you can determine what is wrong.

If you had replaced or unhooked the battery just pryor to geting the smog then thats the problem. Just drive the truck for a couple days and you should be fine.

You will still pass the test if you still have 2 monitors not set. California allows that. 3 fail

Obd not ready won't pass inspection

It usually takes more than one drive cycle to clear all monitors to "ready".The vehicle may take multiple "from cold" drive cycles and hundreds of miles to clear all.Drive normally with varied driving and include long coasting down stops.Buy a cheap scan tool ($35) and check monitors as you drive.
DO NOT CLEAR CODES or run the battery dead or you will have to start over!

Failing smog computor says cataletyc not ready it has a knew converter

Check the oil level, to much can ruin catalytic converter. Check O2 sensors with scanner, make sure they are work accurately. Check air box while car running, apply aceteline gas with no flame, recheck scanner for O2 sensors flucuatation. Compare all sensors for flucuation of 1mv to 9mv. If sensors flucuate they are good, if no flucuation sensors need to be changed. recommend to change cat with bad sensors. Before changing cat check for bad pressure.
