Re: !995 jeep gr cherk. transmission fluid. add hot
Its best to add while all is hot..
Leave it runing in park while adding fluid..
Put a little at a time and keep checking being careful not to over fill..
The dipstick mesures in pints - not quarts..

Engine must be running to check the fluid level. Transmission should be hot, not cold. Then remove plug. Add transmission fluid until it comes out of plug hole. If the engine is not running and you remove the plug, you will lose a lot of transmission fluid.
in the absence of car manual, fill initially with one liter/qrt of transmission fluid. check for leaks and start engine. with transmission in park, slowly add transmission fluid with engine at idle. constantly monitor transmission fluid level with vehicle on level position until fluid level in "cold", then drive vehicle approximately for one mile until fluid is warmed up or hot. recheck fluid level with engine idling and on park. Add if necessary until fluid level in Hot position in dip stick. then your done. write down how much fluid you added for future reference.
It varies by make. Remember most transmission fluid is locked into the torque converter and didn't come out even when you changed the filter. So knowing the capacity isn't helpful. Filling from a filter change usually doesn't take much fluid. Maybe 3-5 quarts. Just add fluid one quart at a time with the engine off. Start the engine with the transmission in neutral and check fluid level. Repeat this process until it reaches the cold full mark. Then start the engine and let it warm to operating temperature. Check the fluid level again, it should now be on the hot mark. If it's not add some more until it is. Remember all checks should be done with the engine running and transmission in neutral but you should only add fluid with the engine off for safety reasons.
I'm going to assume this is an automatic transmission. Make sure that you check the fluid level on level ground with the engine running. There should be a cold and a hot mark (or side) on the stick.
Then get a transmission funnel and add fluid through the dipstick tube. the funnel will be about a foot long, and come down to a small opening at one end.
You always check transmission fluid with it running and in park,If your dip stick has a place on it for cold use it cold,Other wise it should be on the full mark, you might want to look under your jeep for any new leaks!
you should have a transmission dip stick in the back left buy the center of the engine pull that and there will be a hot and cold line it should read cold if it's lower then the cold line you will have to add but only add a little at a time you don't want to over fill that hope this helps
First check your owners manual if you have one if not, then follow this proceedure. With vehicle in park & ignition off, open hood & remove the dip stick from the trans, should be some markings on dip stick that is stamped w/check in park or check in neutral. There will also be some hash marks, cold add/full, hot add/full. If checking cold, fluid levle will should be between the add & full, if checking the fluid level after driving, w/the vechile still running, check the fluid level w/the vechile in park or neutral, depending on what is stamped on the dip stick, check the hot level, should be between add & full. If fluid level at htis point is on add, then add 500 ml of fluid, check level again and add as needed.
thats because the fill point is on the trans you will have to crawl under the vech and look for a plug at the top of the trans remove that plug make sure you add the right fluid check with the dealer for the recommended fluid add the fluid until it runs out the hole let it set for awhile install the plug start the vech run it through the gears and recheck good luck kdc744
