P0400 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Flow Description: The electric EGR (EEGR) system is monitored once per drive cycle during steady state conditions above 77 km/h (48 mph). The test fails when a concern is detected by powertrain control module (PCM) calculations indicating the EGR flow is less or greater than expected. Possible Causes:

  • EEGR valve stuck open or closed
  • Connector to EEGR not seated
  • EEGR motor winding circuits short or open
  • No voltage to the EEGR
  • Harness open or shorted to voltage or ground
  • Vacuum signal to manifold absolute pressure (MAP) restricted or leaking
  • Mass air flow (MAF) sensor signal erroneous
  • Carbon build up in the EEGR valve seat area
  • One or more sensors is not responding or is out of range
Diagnostic Aids: All of the following sensors input data to the PCM for correct operation of the EEGR system: engine coolant temperature (ECT), crankshaft position (CKP), intake air temperature (IAT), MAF, throttle position (TP), MAP. Any DTC relating to these sensors must be resolved prior to addressing code P0400. Application Key On Engine Off Key On Engine Running Continuous Memory All GO to Pinpoint Test KD . P042E - 07e8pd code come up on my ford focus 1.6 sport diesel 2011 any idea what the cause is?

Code P042E means that your EGR valve is stuck open. You can clean the EGR valves but if it is stuck open it means it is pretty contaminated. Better off replacing it. Not that expensive.

I need to know what the problem the p0401 what is the problem 1999 grand Victoria Ford 4.9

wow I wish ford could make a egr system that wouldn't fail as I've seen this one go a lot lately ! anyways the code is for insufficient flow in the egr system , this is a means to recirculate some of your exhaust back into your intake , as a means to reburn some of your excess fuel (emissions) , anyways it consists of a means to meter some of the exhaust , and control it (off/on) also to measure the amount that goes in , its part of the closed loop of the fuel inlet system , the fault code is specifically saying flow sensor cant detect any flow in the pipe , there can be a few causes for this including a bad flow sensor , all are from my opinion a poorly designed system (it doesn't self clean it's self ) as almost a guaranty every 60k miles your gonna have some problem with it

Summary

Should a customer express concern about one of the following:

* hesitations,
* poor or no start,
* deteriorated fuel economy,
and upon investigation diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P1412, P0490 and P1335 are stored in the powertrain control module (PCM), the probable cause is a sticky exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve.

To rectify this concern, a new EGR valve with a stronger EGR valve motor and revised PCM calibration should be installed.

I have the code PO401 AND PO402 codes on my 2002 focus, any suggestions?

PO401: EGR insufficient flow detected
PO402: EGR excessive flow detected

A code P0402 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:

The DPFE (differential pressure) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
There is a blockage in the EGR (most likely carbon buildup)
The EGR valve is faulty
The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum
