Is it possible to replace the Northstar engine in a 1997 Cadillac Seville SLS with the 4.9L PFI engine ? Thank you.

There is a flat spot at the front of the right side (passenger side) cylinder head will have the last 6 of the Vin and letter code at the end of it for id purposes. You will see it looking down from the top of the motor.

neither the 93 seville is just that it's the 4.9 liter before the northstar sts 4.6 came out in same year

Usually all you have to do is pull back the inside trunk liner behind the tail lights from inside the trunk, or there may be a plastic door that you open to access the tail lights. The wires going to the tail lights connect to a plug that you turn counter clockwise and pull out from the back of the tail light assembly. Once you have removed the connector replace the bulb. Some light bulbs just pull straight out of the connector, others you may have to push in and turn counter clockwise to remove.

I have a 99 and aftter posting the same question was given some bad info, at a different sight. On the 99 I found it necessary to remove the fan assemblies, drain the radiator and remove , you have to move the condensor for the A/C but it does not have to be removed. I also had to remove the upper plastic piece in the engine compartment and the lower gravel shield. After this is done you will have a clear view of the Alt., mine was the watercooled version, I also replaced all the hoses and belts while I was in there. You may want to have the Alt tested before removal this was a 2 day job in the driveway for me. Mine is also the northstar version , I believe the 2000 is the same.

4.6 the twocrankshaft position sensors are located on the front of the block just above and to the left of the oil filter. not hard to replace.
