Its too late to know if the distributor was in the right place to start with. So we will start from square one.
If the distributor really is off, one of the camshafts is not on the right tooth.
But you should also take a close look at the inside of the distributor cap. The firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6 but that is not the way the plug wires go on the cap. The actual point the rotor fires a plug wire may not be the same on the inside as it looks on the outside.
If you have spark to a spark plug wire, you have ignition. So, is there fuel? If so, then it is TIMING, Crank Sensor or Coil. On the Sebring 2.5 there is a crank sensor. It tells the computer where the engine is (timing) and will keep the engine from running or running right. Remember that coil inside the distributor. It has two sides, the ignition side and the coil side. if that ignition side is failing, and even though you have a spark at the plug, the ignition will not happen (won't "catch") So, COIL? Crank Sensor? Still in all, Computer Codes really help. You're getting down there. Good luck then!
how do you know all this (plugs firing, timing belt good, etc ) if engine wont crank?? Chrysler had a major problem in those years with the distributor going bad...buy new on ebay for around $100...dont buy used1
Did you check the timing belt to see if it broke? It ha a 2.5 and it has belt. Remove timing cover at the front of the engine and have someone crank it while you watch the cam to see if it turns. If it doesn't turn, replace the belt.
I would put three cans of dry gas in the fuel tank. Let it sit for a few and then crank it over. The other issue may be that the fuel filter needs to be changed.
