SOURCE: 2000 town and country van back door will not unlock

sounds like the lock is seized, you will have to remove the panel,it's held on with screws and snap plugs, remove all the screws and then gently pull the panel off. you will be able to open the hatch by sliding the lever sideways. the latch and mechanical lock are the same unit. it has a electrical actuator. your dealer or regular tech sould be of great help in this very simple matter.

SOURCE: door locks

Daughter had same problem on '05 T&C. Neighborhood mechanic searched Internet and found 80-90 others with same problem right around 40,000 miles. Free solution was to pull yellow 20A IOD fuse in right front corner of fuse box under hood, wait 10 seconds, then reinsert fuse. Should solve problem as long as you don't lock doors with FOB. You can unlock doors with FOB, but apparently locking with FOB causes the problem.

Permanent solution is to have dealer reprogram computer for around $50 which is what my daughter chose to do because of inconvenience of not being able to lock doors with FOB when getting baby/carseat out of vehicle.

Take a look at end of door where latch is & post where the 2 meet when closed. Look for round metal button/contacts, about 1/2" in diameter. If you look close, they should line up to make contact with each other when door is closed. Take some fine steel wool (preferred) or fine sandpaper and scuff them up until you see metal is clean on both surfaces. Now try it, and let me know what happens.

SOURCE: Back door wont unlock

I have a 1999 Chrysler T&C 3.8 liter like yours and it sounds
like you are having the same the same problem I had.
Every time you hit the door unlock or lock button, it made a loud
buzz like you just missed a question on a game show. ;-)

It turned out the problem was the rear lift gate lock actuator. The part costs
about $40 from the dealer if I can recall correctly.

The repair involves: 1st removing the middle and rear seats to get
access from the inside to the rear gate
(obviously you will have to remove the seats from the side doors
since the rear gate won't open yet)

Remove the plastic inside rear gate panel and molding (phillips screws)
Once you remove the panel, you may see a way to manually
open the rear gate. As I recall, I think there was a access opening
covered from the inside with a black weather/insulation tape.
Carefully removing this out of the way gave access to a way to
manually open the gate, making the rest of the work easy.

Remove the electrical connector and the mounting bolts
to remove from the actuator. It is attached to the inside
rear gate with 2 or 3 bolts (10 mm?)

Remove the old one and replace the part, then put it all back
together, make sure you reconnect the electrical connector

Takes about an hour for the whole job (max)

Hope this helps,

Wes

I have a 2008 town and country when I press to unlock it won't work but when I press button to lock it works do I need to go back to the dealer ship I bought the car from to fix the problem?

Does the passenger side door have the option of locking all doors? If it does and it still does not lock then sounds like the relay is bad thet reverses polarity to the locking motor. Dealership or general car tech youll need to take it two one of these places.

If I can help more please feel free to ask!

02 town and country sliding door problem.

check and make sure the child locks ( switch in the back edge of the door itself) isnt in the LOCKED position. If unsure, flip it the other way then it is set at , close door and see if it will open from the button. If that doesnt fix it then it will be an electrical problem at the switch and should still be covered under your warranty.

2002 Chrysle Town & Country Power liftgate won't open.

Replace the lock on the rear door. If a used lock is used it has to have the powered door. I am a car dealer and have replaced about 8-9 of them. I sell a lot of Town & Country vans. The 1st one I paid a Chrysler dealer to fix. About $200. After that I fix myself. About $70- $125 from a Chrysler dealer new with discount. The lock is not sending the correct code to the computer and the door is confused on what to do. Only 3 torx bolts to remove and the door panel 2 screws in handle then snap off.
On one I had that did not fix the problem and it was a relay sensor about $40. on the working arm / motor of the door and not the lock. Look at car-part.com for used parts. Thanks, Roy
