The steering gets hard because the engine has stalled, it is not a problem but a symptom. In modern computer controlled vehicles the engine is monitored constantly for problems, when one occurs a fault code is set with very few exceptions. What you need to do is go to an Autozone or other discount parts store and ask for an OBD2 (On Board Diagnostics Generation 2 OBD2) fault test, it is free, once you have the fault codes you can post them here and we can advise on what might be the problem, in your case it is likely fuel or ignition related.

its just stops going until i put it in park and restart the car.then put it in drive and goes just fine.i also notice the steering wheel wont turn when this happens.
