02 olds alero no start system shut down

As for the lights being on many GM products do that right after the key is off but if you open the driver's door they should go off. Not sure if that model is part of the ignition switch recall or not. Due to numerous ignition switch problems I would have the ignition switch replaced. The key cylinder IS NOT the switch. The key lock cylinder operates a rod that in turn moved the ignition switch to various positions. Battery must be disconnected and care taken not to deploy the airbag while the switch is replaced. I think I would go with a after market brand such as Delphi rather than another AC Delco factory switch.

The engine shutting off after starting may also be the ignition switch not moving to the RUN position properly. Before doing anything else I'd replace the ignition switch then go from there if the two problems are not cleared up.

sound like theft security problem.when you try ten minutes did you leave ignition switch on position for ten minutes until the security light turn off then turn off ignition switch for 5 seconds then try starting vechicle.when you do 10 minute trick security light has to turn off or disappear when you see security light go off turn off switch 5 seconds then try starting vechicle.

Have you reset the fuel pump switch...bled the lines? Try starting fluid for a few times then look at these issues.

It could be a problem with the passlock system. Does the security light flash when you try to start it?

its out of gas, dont rely on the gas gauge

IF YOUR IGNITION SWITCH KEY CYLINDER LOCK OR KEYS ALSO THE BCM FAULTY.THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO REPLACE FIX THEM AND REPROGRAM TO PCM IN ORDER FOR CAR TO CRANK.

Probably a security system, battery was unhooked.
Some Fords also have two fuel pumps, one in the tank, and a secondary one in the frame rail.

Try replacing the air filter.

you might have a clogged fuel filter when you run a car out of gas it sucks all the junk out of the bottom of the talk and the filter will catch all of that

If the security light is flashing when that happens, you need to turn the key to the ON position, and let it sit for 10 minutes, so it can reset the security code. Start it up as normal and let it idle for 5 minutes.
