If other answer does not help, it is possible that your neutral safety switch is worn out. With your foot on the brake, hold the key in the start position, and move the shifter around, including pushing it more into park than normal. If the car starts, or tries to, your neutral switch is the problem. If the car is a manual, there is a switch on the clutch pedal. Try to push the clutch a little farther than usual. If it starts then, that switch is out of adjustment.

Tap on the starter with a hammer, but don't hit the wires to the battery, then try it, if that don't work check the cables from the battery to the starter to see if the bolts are tight. But first take the hot cable off the battery, so you don't short out the starter or the battery. And also clean and tighten the cables to the battery.
ignition switch is worn out its under dash on steering colum either install push button to start or replace also if its standard check clutch pedal sensor
hi have you checked the leads from battery to starter are secure ? also important that the negative earth lead from battery to the engine is also secure and in good condition on the starter you should have main cable from battery and a thinner cable both connected to solenoid on one terminal ? then a thin wire to a small push on terminal? this wire is the key start wire which energises the slenoid/starter
This may sound goofy, but get some help and try and push start it and see if it starts. I had this same problem and a new distributor (very expensive) was NOT the cause. After I push start mine it works fine for months at a time.
