SOURCE: I have a Toyota Cressida
Had the same problem many years ago. What happens is the wire resistance dereasing with age, so the voltage to the starter motor is less than 12V. The solution is to unplug the starter motor cable and feed it to a 12V relay with a ground to the other side of the relay coil. Next , take a +feed from the battery and plug that to one of the switch contacts of the relay and and run the other contact to the starter motor. So what happens when you start your car the relay is activated first and this sends a stronger 12Volts to the starter motor. Best of luck - Michael fron South Africa

check for possible defective distributor cap and/or rotor button. check the ignition timing to make sure it is correctly set. with dual cams this vehicle can be a problem with correct timing set. also, distributor shaft can be defective on the bottom end.

Its on the line coming from the fire wall. But you really should have a professional do this. Why? a) its dangerous, R12 what you should be using (unless it was converted to R134A )is expensive and hard to find and you need a license to get it. R134A is also dangerous it can blind you if it gets into your eyes and unless your using a manifold gauge set to do the charging your risking a burst condition.b) legally in most states only a professional can perform this. So be careful

Best stuff to use in my opinion, is Prestone All-Makes. It can safely be added to any colour of coolant (tho I still do not recommend mixing it with Dex-Cool, allthough it says it is fine). You don't have to worry tho yours will not be Dex-Cool as that is a GM type coolant.
So to re-cap, I recommend Prestone All-Makes. You can decide whether you want pre-mixed, which you can pour straight in, or concentrated which will need to be mixed 50/50 with water.
