Can I drive my 01 Isuzu trooper without front cv axles? How bad is it to drive on them if they need replaced?

It can damage the parts that keep the tires on our car if you don't get the CV axles replaced. You should take your car to a mechanic to replace the axles.

Where is toyota constant velocity u-joint located

Like all front-drive cars using CV joints, there are 4 CV joints on the car near the engine. The vehicle has 2 axles (left and right, driving the corresponding front wheel). Each axle has 2 joints, one on each end. Typically the outer CV joints fail first, as their range of movement is greater due to steering the vehicle.

In modern practice the entire left or right axle is replaced when a CV joint goes bad.

Constant Velocity joints and U-joints perform a similar function, but are not really the same thing. U-joints are more typically used on rear-drive or truck-based 4WD vehicles.

Our mitsubishi 3.2 diesel automatic has an intermittent vibration that is quite bad , been in the garage and had new ball joints put on but the vibration is still there, could this be anything to do with...

The question is the source of the vibration. Emissions issues may cause engine misfires and vibration. However, new ball joints suggests you experienced vibration in the steering wheel. Worn ball joints CAN cause this, but since replacement did not fix it, the next source is a worn inner CV joint on a front axle. This CV has to smoothly allow for suspension movement, and the concurrent in-out axle movement in the CV. What happens is the CV binds and generates wheel vibration, which can be severe. Have the garage check for wear in the inner CV carriers. Replace the axle if necessary.

Front end makes noise when turning. Could this be tire rods or axle problem. I had motor mounts replaced when the mounts went bad could this the moving motor cause damage to front wheel area?

yes, popping when turning is usually caused by worn out CV joints in axles. Check for torn CV boots. When a boot tears, dirt gets into the joint a wears it prematurely. If you find tears, it is easiest to replace the whole half-axle than to fix the CV. Let me know if you have more questions.

Grinding noise when turning a bend

if the grinding happens when you turn the wheel while moving and not while turning the wheel when stationary chances are you have a bad cv axle. you can check it by locating the cv boot on the front axles. (a rubber piece that goes around the outside of the cv axle. move and expand the rubber boot and check for cracks in it generally they go bad when the boot is cracked or torn and dirt and sand gets in the teeth of the cv axle and wear it out.
