On my 93 Chevy caprice the dash lights and cluster won't work. Gas gauge went so far up that I can no longer see it.

First check and see if the dash light dimmer control on the headlight switch is turned down all the way, which shuts off the dash lights. As far as the gas gage goes that is more then likely a defective gas tank fuel level sending unit.

SOURCE: dash gauges not working

Check the large multi-pin connector in the electronics bay in the engine compartment. The bay is a fairly large black plastic box on the driver's side. Open it and disconnect the largest connector inside (one screw). Spray electrical contact cleaner on the pins and re-mate the connector. This worked on my '99 with the exact same problem. You can find other examples of this with a Google search. It may not solve your problem (could also be a wiring harness problem), but it is incredibly simple and worth a shot.

SOURCE: Instrument cluster on my 2005 S500 back illumination went out, although all the gauges are still working inclusive of the on board computer

remove the cluster(should be able to insert Small flat head screwdrivers into slots on plastic trim of cluster. Lower your steering wheel down and remove key. wait approx 30 seconds until cluster is off( means that the interior c.a.n. has went to sleep) unplug cluster and see if the bulbs you wish to replace are accessible from the rear cover. if not remove retaining screws and un clip rear cover from housing. You should have access to the back lighting bulbs

You need to check your main fuses under the hood first and then check them under the driver side dash board.

Hi, that fuse did not come with your car. It may go to your radio, if someone installed an aftermarket radio in the truck.
Your fuses are laid out in the owner's manual, which you can download here if you don't have one:
http://www.extendedgmwarranty.com/owners-manual/chevrolet/1998-Chevrolet-Blazer.pdf

Fuses start on page 6-60. The lighter fuse is #2 in the box at the end of the dash board. The instrument lights are powered by fuse #5, but that would be for all of the lights. If only the 2 gage lights are out, you probably need to replace the bulbs. I have pasted instructions for removing the instrument cluster below. Note that you may be able to replace bulbs without disconnecting everything and removing the cluster. It just depends on how much slack is in the cables, so try pulling the cluster out a bit with wires still attached to see if you can do it. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If your vehicle is equipped with a tilt steering wheel, move the wheel to the lowest position. If the vehicle does not have a tilt wheel, it may be necessary to lower the column.
  3. Unfasten the eight clips that retain the instrument cluster bezel and remove the bezel. There are four clips on the top of the cluster bezel and four clips on the bottom of the cluster bezel.
  4. Unplug the electrical connections from the headlamp switch, dimmer control and any other accessory switches that would interfere cluster removal.
  5. Unfasten the four cluster retaining screws and remove the cluster making sure nothing contacts the circuit connections.
  6. If replacing the bulbs, turn the bulb assembly 1 / 2 turn to the left to remove.

To install:
  1. Install the bulb assembly.
  2. Place the cluster into position without touching the connector pins. Install and tighten the cluster retainers.
  3. Attach the headlamp switch, dimmer control and any other accessory switches.
  4. Install the cluster bezel.
  5. return the steering wheel or column to its original position.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.

I have a 2000 Chevy s10 and the dash lights went out all the fuses are fine I think so what else could be wrong

Gauges work and no back lights. Would be a bad connection at the plug. Pull the cluster. No gauges and lights would be a bad ground. They are usually mounted at the steering column bracket. Under the dash.

Where do I find the ground unit for the gas gauge on a 95 Honda passport. I went and changed the dash board lights and the gas gauge started tripping and stopped working need help

If the fuel guage worked prior to changing the bulbs the ground should be ok. The only thing disturbed was the cluster assembly when you removed it. Recheck the connections at the back of the cluster again for tight connections and making sure there are no bent pins. You can also try tapping on the cluster near the fuel guage area to see if that helps

sounds like your instrument cluster went bad, try a salvage yard and install a used cluster, normal price is $100.00 to $150.00, also might check on ebay

1983 chevy caprice classic my dashboard lights dont work and also the clock stops working when i turn the lights on

Probably bad ground in the dash circuitry. You'll have to pull it out and check all the connections. Big job.

2001 jeep grand cherokee, pulled dash out to change blender doors, put it back together, now shows gas gauge empty, and lights up, and key with circle cross on, won't start.

You will need to remove the cluster and make sure you plugged in all the connector to the cluster, the antitheft system runs throught the cluster also and you said fuel gauge doesnt work so i would have to say theres a bad connection or you forgot to plug a connector in. good day.

My gas Hand is stuck on full in my 94 chevy Caprice what do I need to do

It's possible that the sending unit in the tank went bad, or the gauge in your cluster stuck. You can begin by testing the sending unit and seeing if its sending a proper signal.
If it's fine, then I would look into having the cluster checked or replaced. This is all assuming the wiring harness hasn't been tampered with.
Goodluck and please rate

My gas hand and my temp hand doesnt work on 92 chevy caprice

IT MAY BE GM'S DESIGN CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE MULTI-WIRE CONNECTOR THAT PLUGS ONTO THE BACK OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS MOUNTED IN THE PLASTIC HOUSING BEHIND THE CLUSTER. SOMETIMES THE CLUSTER DOESN'T GO IN THE DASH QUITE FAR ENOUGH TO MAKE A PROPER CONNECTION, FOR SOME OF THE THINGS IN THE CLUSTER TO WORK PROPERLY. YOU WILL NEED TO PULL THE CLUSTER OUT TO SEE IF THAT SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM. WHEN YOU GET THE CLUSTER LOOSE & STILL IN THE DASH, TURN ON THE IGNITION SWITCH & WIGGLE THE CLUSTER & SEE IF THE FUEL GA. TRIES TO MOVE. IF IT MOVES YOU WILL NEED TO PUT RUBBER BANDS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT IN BEHIND THE CONNECTOR TO BRING IT TOWARD THE CLUSTER A LITTLE MORE.

Have the various systems scanned and see if they show a fault code, I suspect they will. As far as the gauges go that sounds like the rebuilder screwed up.

My 93 chevy caprice has new water pump and themostat but temp gauge still indicates its still running hot.

Could possibly have a clogged radiator, Which engine does your caprice have? You also need to make sure all air is purged from the system.

When does it over heat, all the time, or just when idling?
