If it goes to the floor you have either blown out slave cylinder or master cylinder, no two ways about that.

What's wrong with my clutch if my 1998 escort won't go into gear. There is small resistance in my clutch pedal

Jamie, are you losing any fluid from the clutch master cylinder? By small resistance I presume you mean the pedal feels soft?

If you're losing fluid from the master cylinder you have an obvious leak somewhere and air is getting into the system.

Most leaks occur from the clutch SLAVE cylinder as it does all the work .. If there's no leak from the clutch slave cylinder, suspect the seals inside. It's like a bicycle pump ..the seal inside wears and it won't pump..

You may be able to get an overhaul kit. I'm in the UK .. but here's an Ebay link for a slave cylinder overhaul kit just to show you what it looks like:
FORD CORTINA MK2 CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER REPAIR KIT SP2085
Here's a link to show you what the slave cylinder itself may look like (it may NOT be for your vehicle..)
CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER FORD FIESTA ESCORT
It's easier and quicker to fit a new slave cylinder than it is to strip down and replace seals with a kit. Be aware, after overhauling or replacing a slave cylinder you have to bleed it - remove the air.

The easiest way of doing this is to make sure the reservoir is fill of fluid, crawl underneath the car with a spanner/wrench, place a rag over the bleed point and get somebody to pump the pedal a couple of times while you undo then tighten the bleed nut.

If it's not the slave cylinder at fault- then it's the master cylinder. Master cylinders also have a 'piston' and rubber seals which wear/perish.
However, it's more than likely that it's the slave cylinder at fault

Why does clutch leak off and wont go into gear 96 toyota tacoma when you push on clutch pedal goes to the floor it wont engage clutch to be able to put into gear

the most likely reason is either the clutch master cyl. needs to be replaced.or the.slave cyl. its mounted down on the transmation under the hood find the resivore for the clutch. check the fluid level.if its low , fill it back up , and look for signs of a leak
you will probally have to bleed out all of the air from the system.its done almost the same way as bleeding the brakes. Good Luck.

The cylinder was empty this morning in the 1990 pathfinder for the clutch, pedal went to floor, filled master cylinder and holding fluid but pedal is still on floor. What to do....

you need to inspect the clutch hydraulic system to look for a leak.check in the truck were the master cylinder bolts to the firewall as if the master is leaking out the back it will show up the leak in this area.check around the master under the hood to see if there are signs of it leaking.check at the transmission were the slave cylinder is as this is another place they leak.if you have to fill the master because its empty there is a leak somewhere.you also may need the clutch replaced as the slave cylinder moves out to adjust for wear of the clutch which will lower the fluid level but not cause it to be empty.you will have to bleed the clutch system at the slave cylinder, there should be a bleeder screw to do this.if you find the leak in the clutch system you will have to replace the system as some come complete master lines and slave.some come with just the slave, lines, master as separate components.

Clutch goes all the way to the floor, when stepped on.

Your car has a hydraulic clutch. Check that the master cylinder reservoir is full and then try bleeding the clutch. (The bleeder point is on the slave cylinder on the bell housing). If it bleeds and regains function fine, but if it does not you will have to have the master cylinder , overhauled, reworked or replaced. Also check the slave cylinder for leaks if your reservoir is empty. (It might be a good idea to have the slave cylinder seen to as well).

Replaced whole clutch and slave cylinder on 1996 Toyota T100 2wd 2mos. ago. Today while driving the clutch hit the floor. I did'nt see any fluid leakage. Any ideas.

Sounds like you need to bleed the system again, or you have an air leak. try bleeding again and just check your fittings for tightness.

I have a 98 v-6 4.2L manual transmission my clutch pedal is dead, goes to the floor without disegaging. What is the likely problem? The fluid appeears to very slowly go down in the resevoir but there are...

You are definitely loosing hydraulic fluid in the system. If it is not the master cylinder it may be the slave cylinder down below. You have two options to find the problem. If the master cylinder is leaking you will see a wet trail at the rear of the master cylinder. You may have to remove the master from the firewall to check this unless you can look under the dash from the inside and see it wet. The other method will be to check the slave cylinder down below in the same manner look for leaking or wetness. When you find the bad part you can pick up another and install it. You will have to bleed the system to purge all air from the system for the clutch to release properly. Good luck. This is actually a very easy process. You can do it !

Clutch pedal going to the floor too easily..

You likely have a leak in either the master for the clutch, the line going to the slave unit or the slave itself. You need to look at these items and replace any leaking components. If the master is full, likely it is internally bypassing and therefore needs replacement. Air in the system can only get in there from a leak. bleeding may make it work for a short time but is not a cure. After making any repairs you do need to bleed it though. (just like brakes)

Clutch pedal goes to floor

Its sounds like a bad clutch cylinder or bad slave cylinder or fluid leaking. First check brake fluid level in clutch master , and check for a leak in clutch system. If there are NO leaks, then you either have a bad clutch cylinder or a slave cylinder. Bleed clutch at bleeder screw on slave cylinder and make sure there is pressure from master cylinder. If there is pressure then slave cylinder may be bad replace slave and bleed and that should take care of you problem. If master is bad then replace bleed system ad you should be good. Clutch pedal not diengaging the clutch

You need to check the slave/master cylinders for leaking. Loose pedal means there is no liquid inside, clutch is bleeding. Look under the vihicle for leaks and floore inside tha cabin.
Hope that helps
