I'm installing a remote start on a 2006 VW Passat. I need to tap into the Access/Authorization antenna 1 R138 harness. 12 wires lead to it. Which do I splice the Immobilizer interface module into?

SOURCE: front speaker installation for VW Passat

If you've not taken speakers out before they are easy to do, you have to pull the door trim off, first look if there are any screws and take them out then carefully pull the trim away from the door and using a torch you will see plastic holding clips you have to pull the trim off at that point, some will break but they are a few cent only and can be got from the VW dealer readily, take your time and you "might" not break any of them, I find a plastic 12" ruler to be handy along with a flat bladed screwdriver, first cover all the blade of the screwdriver with masking tape to stop any damage if you slip.
very simple job to do just take your time and dont rush the clips have a tough hold on the doors also.

I'm looking for a factory wiring diagram for my 1999 vw passat.

Hi Chad,

If you cut the car's radio connectors off the wiring harness, you'll void the warranty of the car (or worse). Trying to splice or "tap" the wires will get confusing even if you don't connect the blue wire with the white stripe to the white wire with the blue stripe.

Do yourself a huge favor and purchase a wiring harness adapter for your 199 Passat instead. Crutchfield sells one for your car for $10. Likewise, most electronics stores that deal witrh mobile installs have them too - check out Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's and even your local independent radio shops.

You wire the new radio's harness to the harness adapter for the car in the comfort of your home (the light is better and you don't have to contort yourself to do the work). When complete, bring it out to the car and plug one end into the car, and the other into the radio. Insert the antenna plug and you're done wiring!

If you want a wiring diagram, those usually aren't available online for free. You need to spend a few dollars for a Chilton's Auto Repair Manual or similar at an autoparts store. You may find registering at a site for Passat Enthusiasts will be beneficial.. all the folks there have Passats and discuss everything from tire sizes and rims to transmission rebuilding. One such site is the "Forum" section of Passat World.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Immobilizer active reset on 2006 volkswagon passat

First of all you need to programm all ignition keys using suitable diagnostic equipment (VAS, VAG-Com) connected to the data link connector of the car.

You have an electronic immobilizer key recognition problem. Now your key chip is not recognized by the transponder antenna fitted on the ignition switch barrel.

tdisline_775.jpg

This warning lamp indicates that the engine is locked by the immobilizer system, and the engine start sequence must be repeat again.

From year 1995 in Audi-VW (VAG) cars is used engine immobilizer. The VAG group immobilizer system consists of an immobilizer ECU which controls the recognition of keys and the Engine Management ECU system. Immobilizer is activated when the ignition key is removed and, together with the engine control unit, largely prevents unauthorized starting of the engine. The system uses a transmitter and receiver unit in the ignition key (transponder). Whenever an attempt is made to start the engine, it transmits a new code to the car's electronics. The immobilizing is only cancelled and car motor electronic receives permission to start engine if the key sends a right authorization code.

My vw passat 1999 jvc cd player canot hold memory. have to start my music from track 1 any time the key is out. do i need rewiring? thanks

THERE ARE 2 POWER INPUT WIRES ONE RED THE OTHER YELLOW THEY BOTH HAVE INLINE FUSES THE YELLOW IS FOR THE MEMORY AND SHOULD HAVE +12 AT ALL TIMES RED ONLY WHEN KEY IS ON OR ACC. SOME JVC UNITS HAVE A FUSE PLUGED INTO THE BACK OF THE UNIT ITSELF THEN YOU HAVE TO PULL IT OUTLOOK AT YOUR FUSE PANEL AND YOU MAY SEE RIGHT OFF A BLOWN FUSE BUT IF THE STEREO WAS INSTALLED PROFESSINALY THEY USUALLY HAVE A HARNESS THAT PLUGS DIRECTLY INTO THE FACTORY HARNESS ELIMINATING THE INLINE FUSE THUSLY THE FUSE ON THE BACK IF IT WAS PUT IN WITHOUT A HARNESS ADAPTER YOU SHOULD SEE THE RED AND YELLOW WIRES. IF SO MAKE SURE THEY ARE PLUGGED INTO THE FUSE BOX OR HARDWIRED TO THE OLD HARNESS THE YELLOW ONE IS THE PROBLEM IF THE RADIO PLAYS BUT NO MEMORY THE FASTEST WAY TO CHECK IT IS TO PULL THE PLUG FROM THE BACK OF THE STEREO IF YOU CAN GET TO IT AND HOOK A TEST LIGHT TO GROUND AND TEST THE YELLOW FOR POWER IF NO LIGHT THEN LOOK FOR THE INLINE FUSE OR CHECK ON THE BACK. IF THE RED AND YELLOW WIRES WERE CROSSED ON INSTALLATION IT WOULD DO A SIMULAR THING ASWELL, IF YOU TELL ME THE MODEL# OF THE JVC I CAN BE MORE HELP. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR SECURITY RESET CODE BEFORE YOU REMOVE ANY FUSES OR PLUGS OR YOU'LL HAVE A HARD TIME RESETING IT GOOD LUCK!

Where is the location of crankshaft sensor in VW passat,1995,2,8?

OPERATION
The crankshaft position sensor detects gaps in the sensor ring corresponding to TDC of each cylinder. The sensor uses a permanent magnet, core and coil. The changing gap causes the magnetic field near the sensor to change. This in turn varies the voltage signal to the ECM. The ECM uses the signals for ignition timing and fuel synchronization.
TESTING
Audi A4 2.8L
  1. Disconnect the electrical harness connector.
  2. Switch the DMM to its resistance range and connect it between the CKP sensor connector terminals 1 and 2 , using jumper wires from VW 1594 test kit. The DMM should show approximately 1,000 ohms.
  3. If the specified value is not obtained, replace the crankshaft position sensor.
  4. If the specified value is obtained, connect the DMM between terminal 1 and 3 (GND), then between terminals 2 and 3 (GND). The DMM should show infinite ohms (open).
  5. If the specified value is not obtained, replace the crankshaft position sensor.
  6. If the specified value is obtained, check the wiring for continuity or short between crankshaft position sensor and ECM, using a wiring diagram.
  7. Connect a VAG 1598/19 test box to the ECM harness connector.
  8. Check the CKP sensor shielding for continuity by connecting a DMM between terminal 3 and engine ground (GND). The DMM should show a maximum of 1 ohm.
  9. Check the wiring for continuity between the CKP sensor connector terminal 1 and the test box socket A9 , then between the CKP sensor connector terminal 2 and test box socket A10 . There should be a maximum of 1 ohm.
  10. If the specified values are not obtained, check and eliminate any short or open circuits in the wiring.
  11. If the wiring is OK, replace ECM.

Passat 2.8L
  1. Disconnect the harness connector from the crankshaft position sensor.
  2. Switch the DMM to its ohms range.
  3. Connect the DMM to terminals 1 and 2 of CKP sensor harness, using adaptor leads from VW 1594 adaptor kit.
  4. Resistance between terminals 1 and 2 must be 500-700 ohms.
  5. Connect the DMM to terminals 1 and 2 , then 1 and 3 of the CKP sensor harness, using adaptor leads from VW 1594 adaptor kit.
  6. The resistance must be infinite ohms.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
  2. Remove the crankshaft sensor retaining bolt and remove the sensor.
  3. Replace the O-ring and lightly lubricate it with clean engine oil.
Installation is reverse of removal.

---
To remove the sensor:

  • Disconnect the wiring harness.
  • Unbolt the sensor mounting bolt.
If the crankshaft timing sensor or the camshaft reference sensor is removed, follow this procedure when the sensor is replaced:
  • Thoroughly clean the sensor tip and install a new spacer on the sensor tip. New sensors should be supplied with the spacer installed.
fr_24.15.gif

Spacer on crankshaft timing sensor and camshaft position sensor.

  • Install the sensor until the spacer lightly touches the sensor ring, and tighten the sensor mounting bolt 105 in.lb.
---
Look for the sensor on the axis of the crankshaft near either end of the engine.

Good luck on locating this sensor.
