Tiptronic dropped into "urgency program"...

...which means that the gearbox only works in forth gear and all the speed light on the dashboard turn on. The diagnostics say "open circuit or short to earth".
The story is that the widows were left open in a storm and the space under the passenger seat (left hand drive car) filled with water.

I found a comment which says the "16-pin connector on gearbox between valve body and harness" may be moist and the source of the problem. I don't know how to get at the 16-pin connector though.
Any ideas? A6 Quattro

I've removed the transmission computer from my '99 passat, which is also under the carpet on the passenger side. It wasn't easy to get at everything. I just removed the plastic trim pieces and lifted up on the carpet the best that I could. I never got the carpet fully pulled back to expose the computer, so I stuck my hands under the carpet and disconnected everything by feel. Most large VW/Audi connectors have some sort of retention mechanism that also works to remove the connector (I think that on these connectors, there is a lever that you move to disengage the connector).

Audi A4 B7 tiptronic gearbox driving in park mode

It is not recommended to drive an Audi A4 B7 with a tiptronic gearbox in park mode. The park mode is intended to be used when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is turned off. When the vehicle is in park, the transmission is mechanically locked and the wheels are prevented from turning. If you attempt to drive the vehicle while it is in park mode, it may cause damage to the transmission and other drivetrain components. It is important to ensure that the gear selector is in the appropriate gear for the vehicle's speed and driving conditions before attempting to drive. If you are experiencing problems with the gearbox or are having difficulty shifting gears, it is recommended that you consult a professional mechanic for assistance.

What is a tiptronic transmission?

A Tiptronic gearbox is almost an in-between of a manual and automatic car. It is basically an automatic gearbox that gives you the ability to change your gears manually. This allows you to have greater control than with an automatic and can be especially useful for going uphill. This is actually a fairly common feature in European cars and even some Japanese ones too. The difference between a Tiptronic gearbox and an automatic one is that Tiptronic ones have an option to switch out of its automatic mode so it will work like a manual car when you choose. Some newer models have safety features in places so it limits the speed of the car when it is in certain gears so it doesn't damage the car which is something to consider.

Not sure when overdrive is on or off

Overdrive acts like a final gear. It's easily noticed if it is on or off when cruising at higher speeds, as when operating the switch you will notice the engine revs alternate between higher and lower rev ranges.
When the engine revs drop, then overdrive is on, and when they rise, then it is effectively off.

The overdrive function works just like any other gear in that it reduces the torque from the engine to the wheels, and allows the engine speed to drop. This isn't always beneficial when climbing hills or towing however, or when driving hard, as you may prefer that the gearbox wasn't always changing gear into overdrive, as overdrive reduces the torque from the engine as a means to increase fuel economy and reduce stress. It is for this reason that the overdrive can be disengaged, effectively reducing the number of gears in the gearbox which you have available to you.

So simply put, for most drivers, in most circumstances, they will not need to turn the overdrive off.

In answer to the light on/off, the majority of vehicles have overdrive in the 'OFF' position when the light is on. It's a reminder light (amber) that you likely aren't employing the best fuel saving technique.

AUDI A6 SIX SPEED TIPTRONIC GEARBOX SEEMS TO BE IN WRONG GEAR AND APPEARS TO HAVE SLIPPING

I have been having similar problems. The clutch is slipping as thats how you get the variable gears when in full auto, but this is where the problem comes from, some garages (auto gearbox specialists) are now able to fix it. Do not go to Audi as all they do is replace the gearbox (very expensive). There is no quick fix though! Sorry for the bad news!!
