Perhaps you can understand the red flags that pop up in our heads when people ask how to bypass alarms and security systems.
I sure wouldn't want anyone answering how to bypass my trucks security system.
In helping people with car problems, we need to use caution as to not teach people how to steal cars.

I installed a new steering column in my 2004 Pontiac sunfire and now it will not start. It tries then I beta back fire.

Anti-theft system isn't allowing it too .
The Passlock™ System is provided in order to prevent vehicle theft if the ignition lock cylinder is forced to rotate or the ignition switch is operated while separated from the ignition lock cylinder case. If starting is attempted without authorization from the Passlock™ System, the powertrain control module (PCM) will disable engine starting. Start disable may be in the form of fuel disable or starter disable, depending on engine application.
The components of the Passlock™ System are as follows:
• The ignition lock cylinder and key
• The ignition lock cylinder case, including the Passlock™ sensor
• The ignition switch
• The body control module (BCM)
• The security indicator on the instrument cluster
• The powertrain control module (PCM)

I have a 1999 pontiac sunfire with a remote start. Sometimes when I push the remote to start my car, it will start and shut off right away and the anti theft light will flash. Is there something that I can...

no but what you have bad is your remote start brain box that is triggering the anti theft. i suggest taking to a auto electronic place for servicing or stop using remote start.

Ok. my car 97 pontiac sunfire needed a new alternator output cable. guy put a new one on but apparently messed with something else and now its not starting. said the theft light came on and that it isnt...

Tell the guy to call the dealer and ask them how to override the anti theft system or reset it. when you disconnect the battery and lose power it kicks on the anti theft device and it won't get fire.

I have a question about my 1999 Pontiac Sunfire. I have a key, that has a hole, with a black center. is that black center for the anti theft system?? and if that key is not used, will that cause problems?...

there is nothing special about your keys , no transponder . Has a hall effect sensor that is part of the ignition lock cylinder housing . You could get a key made at hardware store . woludn't make a difference .
The Passlock™ lock cylinder is a locking cylinder that turns a rotating magnet past a stationary hall effect sensor. The rotating magnet creates a resistance code (R-Code) that the cylinder sends to the instrument cluster. The Passlock™ lock cylinder interfaces with the instrument cluster through a 3 wire connection. The 3 wires have the following functions:
• Power
• Ground
• Data

Is the security light lit on the insturment cluster ? Does the vehicle start an run ?
