PRNDL (this is called and automatic)
drive is dead, low is dead, Reverse works. only.
in drive its reverse,

98 jeep cherokee sport reverse lights have no power

lamps good,
fuses good. in fuse boxes.
so the reverse switch is bad.?
on the A/t car this switch is called the PRNDL switch prindle.
if the R contact goes bad (as the all do) the lamps go dead.

My 1997 grand cherokee has no reverse, but when you put it in park it appears to be in both park and reverse ???

Have an auto parts store pull the trans codes for free ask first. Then see if it is a part you can change

Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the coolant reserve tank and disengage the three electrical connectors from the PCM.
  3. Remove the three PCM mounting bolts and carefully remove the PCM.
  4. Installation is the reverse of removal.

The central locking system on my jeep Cherokee sports 1997 keeps blowing the 30A fuze but only during the lock cycle. It doesn't occur during unlock?

One leg of the 2 wires connecting to the various door servo's most likely has a short to ground.
Ensure neither leg is permanently grounded.
(The battery feed polarity to the servo motors is reversed by the controller so they run forward (/ reverse), to lock (/ to unlock))
