Having a problem: I have recently replaced the battery and checked my alternator (it checks out good) on my 1996 Subaru legacy 2.5 GT

But if I run my radio, heater, rear window defogger, wipers even intermittently my battery discharges and will not charge back up, do I have a short or a problem with the fuses or something else

Run engine without switching any of the items and connect a voltmeter to your battery. It should read more than 13volts. If less than that but reads about 12.5V then check drive belt tension. If it reads OK (above 13V but not exceeding 14.5V) then switch on each item individually to check for biggest voltage drop. The one that creates the biggest drop maybe the one that creates that drain. If drop only happens when ALL items are on. then your alternator may need servicing because it could not cope with large loads. Also check all wires connected to it (alternator).

1996 Legacy Brighton 2.2 L, replaced the alternator 5 years ago and the battery 3-4 years ago. My battery tests at just over 12 volts, my battery light and brake light stay on. Is it the battery or...

the best way to check this is to use your voltmeter on the battery when the engine is running. with the headlights and climate control system on you should see voltmeter readings as high as 13.2 to 13.5 volts.

The only other way is to load test the battery at the cold cranking amperage printed on the battery. Or use a clamp on ammeter on the positive battery cable to see if the alternator is providing power to the battery.

95 Subaru Legacy wagon won't turn over with a jump start. The battery, alternator and starter have been replaced recently. Does anyone have a clue as to why this may be?

you need to make sure that all connections from each unit are attached properly and free of corrosion.
also it is not unheard of to get a bad part fresh out of the box. so you may want to check that as an option too.

Electrical Problem with 1999 Subaru Legacy

hi there, your alternator is not putting out enough, subbies should put out about 14.4v and just after starting should put out 40-60amps. charge the batt that is in it now with a small (3.5-6amp) charger overnight then start the car and LOAD TEST the batt and alternator at a battery shop. ask them to put a carbon pile load tester on your system. im pretty sure they're gonna tell you its the alternator. many thanks, hope this helps!
