HOW To: tune up Geo Prizm 1995, (doesnt passes Smog THEY SAY, ''it needs tune up and get new cataylic converter'' ?!!) Runs fine! But they also say ""It won't Guarantee it will pass test''.

Wow ,no posted smog report, (the failed gases) now that makes this 10s harder, and for sure more expensive.....
many post,. why not just add to one post

all engines that fail smog run fine. (so says all owners)
(fine means zero,) in the real world.
what's worse is owning a 1995 in USA, and must get sniff tested.
(cant fool that method) no report by you, (paper)

ignore all statements by all smog testers,
only one statement (it fails!)
all others are lies, guessing and BS.
after all if they were fully trained and skilled they'd have a real job.
a fact. (or they get huge retirements from the state?)
The car needs to be check by a pro.
it needs to be scanned, with a custom scan tool that is not sold in any auto store until 1996 happened.

but if that NOT IN THE CARDS./ no money for a real ASE tech?
then yes, do a tuneup..

1: spark plugs. and new wires, cap and rotor.
2: filters. and fresh engine oil, (the oil can be full of gasoline is why)
3: the cat may be ok, is spending a fortune on that good?
on a wild guess,? like your smog guy quipped?
that be your call. no? (shot gun method or testing) your call.

in a shop they would get the engine running perfectly.
in closed loop hot and light cruise.
A NEW front 02 sensor for sure.
then they test the cat last, the CAT is always last.
i think this car has 3 way cat too, so is really 3 cats in one.
all 3 must work. or you fail... (for sure)


what if only NOX gas failed.????
if yes, we fix EGR first. then CAT last. (they work as a team)
what gases failed matters
and was not stated by you.
in a real shop they can sniff front of cat and rear
and tell you ,
bad engine, or bad cat. in minutes.
or both, sure.

bad engine means
1:engine is bad.
2: EFI controls failing, (fuel or spark)
3: misfires. (even some humans cant hear, omg)
4: and many more. but no smog sheet posted, no savvy.

a pro shop knows the pre cat gas levels that are normal.
if they are, then the cat is bad.
end story.

How to tune up a 1995 Geo Prizm? not passing smog, They told me to tune up and get new cataylic converter, but wont guarantee it will pass smog test.

A tune is just replacing the spark plugs every 100,000 miles and the air filter every 30,000, clean oil is also a help in passing smog, the new converter is what will most likely do the trick.

I have 1995 geo prizm I put new fuel pump in it started ran good for two and now want start what you think it is now

why did you put in the pump.
we need the reason for that first.

Where are the fuel injectors located on a 1995 geo prizm

are you dealing with a no start or with a poorly running engine? if it runs very poorly and shaky when cold but then improves as it warms up, it could have clogged injectors. if it's not starting, then I doubt that clogged injectors could be the cause; more likely it would be that they aren't getting juice at all.

now the straight skinny? no joking..
this Toyota in sheep's clothing has more than one engine option.
infact 2, (wiki, the Geo prizm and see that ) see gen 2.
the one time, there is no rail is if the car has TBI
throttle body injection, (ours is not)
if in USA and not Canada.? you never said,
EPA force (USA) the 1.8L the 7A-FE (toy engine)
I think this is a 4 injector MPI engine. Not TBI, see link.

I do not know what GM (Geo) changed on that 7A motor.
about 1995 all TBI was banned here. (dirty smog)
(did geo run custom ECU's , i think not, but may run custom tuning "ecu tables") i metion all this for when buying used parts.

open hood, see intake manifold
see those runners, see them go to the head?
just before those runners contact the head,are INJECTORS x4
and above the injectors is the common rail.

if Geo works out like most of my experience with them.
they used all the toy parts, engine and EFI. and ECU.
so studying this would help.

On my 1993 Geo Prizm i need to know were the intake temperature sensor is because i need to install a performance chip. Thanx

On the air inlet pipe from the airbox to the throttle body. But, don't believe those IAT performance chips, they are waste of money.

try checking plugs and wires, the drisributor cap could be washed and if yours is like my geo the coil is in the distributor. but just check those and go from there

1995 Geo Prizm won't start

I just checked the battery connection and what I thought was a good connection wasn't. It need new connectors on the post. Runs fine after I tightened them more.
