2006 Kia Sportage V6. Need help removing starter guard but confused some say it's plastic but mine is metal?

There is one video that might help. Also the Kia Forums are a good source of information. There are two engines in the Sportage, a V6 and a straight 4, so that may be the difference in metal or plastic. There are only 2 bolts on the starter, but access is always hard unless you have ramps, a lift, or trolley jack and axle stands.

Cooling fan starts up when I turn on engine on Kia Sportage 2006

I have two 2006 Kia Sportages and they both do the same. I'm not sure but I think the cooling fan is programmed to start if using a remote starter.

Starter does not engage. Only clicks when I turn the key.

The first thing to do is to check the condition of the battery cables/terminals. Make sure they are clean, free from corrosion and are tight. Also check the black earth lead where it connects to the block/bodywork. A poor earth can cause the symptoms you describe.

If that doesn't work, disconnect the positive battery cable (but bear in mind that you may lose the radio code.. do you know your radio code?) and then disconnect, clean the cables on the starter motor.

If that does not do anything - suspect the starter motor solenoid. It can be removed and cleaned (remove the starter motor first). You can 'bridge' the terminals on the solenoid with a screwdriver to try and start the car... but be careful.

My 2007 kia sportage clicks sometimes will start sometimes not any ideas what to check

Hi, i would have the starter motor checked out the click usually comes from the starter solenoid. It could also be a bad main wire connection at the starter from the battery.

Lost key for igntion can i crank with swrewdriver

Yes, you can crank the engine by jumping from the battery connection at starter to the starter solenoid terminal, but car won't start without the ignition being on.

Just click's will not start i'm thinking starter need's replaced

If you are able to jump start it with jumper cables, it's not your starter, it'll most likely your battery or alternator. If you are able to jump it off, take it to your local auto parts store so they can test to see if it's your battery or alternator (this test is usually free).
If you try to jump it off, and it still click's, then yes it does sound like the starter solenoid is bad,.

Replacing Selenoid on a 2006 Kia Sportage. Can it be done by a novice? How difficult is it and if it cannot be done how much would it cost?

yes, you can do it. Make sure you disconnect the negative battery cable first, as you'll be working with big wires that will spark if shorted. lemme know if you have questions. Here are instructions from autozone.com:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the starter assembly from the vehicle.
  3. Remove the nut from the solenoid M-terminal.
  4. Remove the solenoid retaining screws and the magnetic switch.

To install:
  1. Install the magnetic switch and secure to the drive housing with the two screws.
  2. Re-install the nut onto solenoid M-terminal.
  3. Reinstall the starter assembly.
  4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

99 kia sportage starter

Theres a solenoid on the starter to engage the starter onto the flywheel. The solenoid could be going out.
