Traction Control Off and Service ABS System

I have similar messages on my cars message center. The message center says service traction control and ABS system. I checked the codes on my OBD2 reader and no codes are stored on the computers memory. Makes sence since the check engine light is not on. It would be nice to know which sensor it is but since there is no code it's hard to tell. What can I do? Buy a sensor and go around and try each one?

The problem seems to be intermitant. I started the car up two out of three times today and there were no messages to have the traction control system and abs system serviced.

If your trac and abs are both on. the problem could be a wheel speed sensor.
on some GM cars this sensor is built into the vehichles hub unit. making the bering and sensor one sealed unit. cheap hub units can be gotten (under 100 bucks) at autozone

What caused the tracking control light to turn on?

If the system fails to turn on or activate, the StabiliTrak®

light along with one of the following messages will be

displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC):

TRACTION CONTROL OFF, SERVICE TRACTION

CONTROL, SERVICE STABILITRAK. If you see these

conditions, turn the vehicle off, wait 15 seconds, and then

turn it back on again to reset the system. If any of these

messages still appear on the Driver Information Center
(DIC), your vehicle should be taken in for service.

My 2003 impalas traction control wont shut off tried a new switch it has new hubs on it any ideas

Before replacing parts there is a specific way to start diagnostics an a professional grade scan tool is a must ! a code reader can not access the body control module , or the EBCM - electronic brake control module or instrument cluster ! All these modules communicate on the class 2 serial data bus.
Begin the system diagnosis with Diagnostic System Check - ABS . The Diagnostic System Check will provide the following information:
?€¢
The identification of the control modules which command the system

?€¢
The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit

?€¢
The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status

The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
The traction control switch is a input to the body control module, with a scan tool hooked up an looking at BCM data ,check for conformation the traction control switch is turning on an off !
SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM The IPC illuminates the SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM indicator in the message center when the electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a malfunction in the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. The SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM indicator illuminates for 60 seconds when the condition is present. The IPC sends a class 2 message to the radio in order to activate an audible warning.
TRAC OFF The IPC illuminates the TRAC OFF indicator when the following occurs:
?€¢
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) inhibits the traction control system due to a malfunction in the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.

?€¢
The body control module (BCM) detects that the traction control switch has been pressed (signal circuit is low). The BCM sends a class 2 message to the EBCM in order to disable traction control. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the radio in order to activate an audible warning.

Tow messages appear on the dash board: Service traction control and Engine power reduced. When this happen I can feel the shift in the transmission when I'm driving. After a while these messages d

Pretty much tells you the system with the fault

Traction Control is embedded into the abs braking
system, so diagnose that using the codes you have,
same as any other obd codes you get

The Reduced Power could be another problem & it
cuts off fuel injectors to save the exhaust converter
from overheating & being ruined

ABS-traction control check and service

I'll start with the code reader. Most simple readers will only read engine codes. You need a professional scan tool that does everything to access the body computer data.
It could be a wheel sensor which the ABS system uses, or one of the other components in the ABS system.

MESSAGE CENTRE TC

TC = Traction Active

If your vehicle is equipped with the Traction Control system, this message will stay on a few seconds after the traction system stops limiting wheel spin.

This message will appear when the traction control system is limiting wheel spin. Keep in mind that when the warning lights turn on, a fault code is stored in the ABS control module (in this case). Retrieving, diagnosing, and repairing any ABS system faults will be necessary to keep the light off. A common fault with ABS systems are the wheel speed sensors, stored codes may confirm this.

Hope this helps.

Electrical problems

What codes and what do the messages say? Other than service traction control. For that you need to scan the ABS system for codes.

Service traction system message on dash

This light is usually caused by a problem in the ABS system. A problem in the ABS system will dissable the traction control system. you will need to have the computers scanned for trouble codes.
